BCP or no BCP?

Hi All-

I am 32 yo and my DH is 28. I am starting my IVF cycle after my Oct AF. I have two FSH levels...my first was a 9.3 and my E2 level was 45...then my second levels were 12.3 and E2 71. Antral follicles counted 7 in left and 8 in right. My doctor is going to put me on a high dosage of all medications. The first part of the meds he has BCP listed. I don't feel comfortable with this because I have read that BCP suppresses and should not be given to women with high FSH levels. I called and spoke to the IF nurse and she basically told me that the doctor knew what he was doing and I should just trust that. I don't feel comfortable doing this. I plan to call the doctor on Monday to try to get his feedback...I am curious to hear from other women. Has anyone taken BCP with an FSH level? And if so what were your results?

Hi Keesha,

I don't know about the FSH levels, but I know that using BCP before doing a fresh IVF cycle is pretty standard. I think they just do it to have a better sense of when your period starts/ends and in what day of your cycle you're in. I remember thinking that it was ironic to take BCP when you're trying to conceive, but that was what I was told. By the way, I only had to take a pack of BCP, then it was all the fertility drugs.

it is myunderstanding that it goes by what the highest FSH level you have had.. so 12.3 is high especially with and E2 of 71 do seeem high to me especially at your age... if you feel comfortable with you clinic then youdo have to trust that the Dr knows what he is doing.. but the nurses can be very frustrating sometime as they dont explain things well.

I have 4 failed ivfs ehind me and have just chaned clinics and started my BCPs 4 days ago.. my FSH was 13.2 with and E2 if 39.
