So my doctor wants to do a saline ultrasound later this month to check the uterus one last time before we start IVF... has anyone had this procedure? what can I expect?
I actually just had two of those. The first showed scar tissue from a previous d&c, the second wast just a follow up after my hyteroscopy to make sure all the scar tissue had not come back. They use a speculum (like what they use when you get your yearly exam) and insert this very small catheter attached to a syringe into your cervix. It only took about 5 minuted at the most and I had a small amount of cramping during the procedure both times. Also after both, I had a very small amount of spotting the day of. I hope this helps. It's really not a big deal at all, I wasn't sure what to expect either.
Well that's good to know... that its short and sweet. I had the dye test and that wasn't too bad. Besides, I know this is a necessary step towards IVF. So it's all worth it!
Mine cramped quite a bit and it lasted for about 4-5 minutes. The cramping went on after the procedure though and I almost felt faint. I defintely know next time to take some pain relievers before I go.

Thanks for the info. I did the dye test like 2 years ago and it was crampy for 5 min. during the procedure. Luckily I took tylenol before the test and it was crampy for the following 12 hours. I usually have cramps after IUIs as well.
I know this is old but if someone in the future is reading it...I failed my saline ultrasound, I had two "polyps" from my miscarriage. I had hysterscopy surgery scheduled for them to remove the leftover tissues. It went well, I then had a failed IVF but had a successful IUI two months after the surgery. Doc said a new embie wouldn't implant if there was old tissue there. I didn't have a d&c for my miscarriage but pills to dissolve the tissues. It didn't hurt, just the pain of the time it would take to get back to ttc again. I was under complete anesthesia so I remember being wheeled in the OR then waking up on the drive home.

I originally posted this question... and the test ended up being a breeze. Just like the dye test. Maybe a pinch here or there and minor cramping afterward.
Good news is my results were totally normal so I got approval for IVF. Strangely enough I actually had ER on Christmas morning 2008! It has to go down as my weirdest xmas ever... The bad news is we only had one blast to transfer and it didn't implant. We will try again later this year.
