I am new here, and am looking for some helpful advice. I have PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I have tried Clomid and it did not work. The doctor is now having me try FEMARA. Has anyone tried this pill? It is actually for Breast cancer, but is showing some result when being used for infertility. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Helpme, I was on Femara for a few cycles. I also have PCOS, but am not the classic PCOS patient. I'm not sure if that's the reason but the Femara didn't work for me. It did make me ovulate, but I never got pregnant. I've read a lot about it though and it definitely has proven effective for some women. I'd say give it a try since it's certainly a lot cheaper than IUI's and IVF. Hope this helps!
i took it once when i was with another RE. She was a big advocate for it if Clomid didnt work. But I had to sign a disclaimer to use it that the RE wouldnt be responsible for anything that happend if it did. I shouldve thought this is crazy especially when I went to fill it at the pharmacy and the pharmacist said miss I think you may have the wrong prescription but I went ahead and took it once. Didnt work but when I went to my new RE he was NOT an advocate and said he wouldnt put his DOG on it. Well I was devastated since I had taken it but like I said my previous RE loved it. It doesnt cause the side effects that clomid does long term like thining the lining of the uterus and other things. Its worth a try but alot of what I read about it was it causes birth defects. But if you read the studies it causes this when the woman is already pregnant and takes it. Theres no data that shows if you take it TO GET PREGNANT that it increases birth defects. Im all for trying something off label if it works. Hope this helps
I used it. I had not side effects. It has a short half life meaning it doesn't hang around in your body and cause poor lining or hostile cervical mucus like clomid can. It is being widely used now for infertility.
I just found this forum and my doc gave me Femara or however you say it. I wondered how come everyone else takes clomid, but I don't have PCOS. I wonder why he prescribed it to me. This was when we did the inseminations. Can you guys explain this to me?
