Advice on helping my morning sickness??

Post by Kas101 »

Does anyone have any great tips on surviving morning sickness that you could share?? I am 7 weeks and have only started feeling this seasickness/queasiness for the last few days but its pretty much there all the time now (though oddly, not in the morning - doesnt start till lunch, then gets worse till i am almost throwing up by bedtime).

I know there is medication available if it gets really bad, and if i need it i will take it, but is there anything i can do to manage this mild/moderate all day feeling??? I have tried ginger ale and crackers (kind of works for a while) and sucking fruit lifesavers either works really well or makes me nearly throw up.

I am having triplets, so i can only imagine this is going to get worse, so any advice is MUCH appreciated :D

My advice is to suck it up! Sorry not much help I know but I have tried everything including medication and nothing seems to work or make a difference. Hopefully by four months it will subside but some people have it the entire pregnancy. I vomited a lot in those first few months. Make sure you keep your fluids up.

Good luck.

Sometimes sweet things help. Sip some lemonade. Also try eating an orange. I find herbal tea -- like raspberry helps as well.

Someone told me about emetral (I think thats it). Its OTC and for nausea. Its a sweet liquid that comes in cherry. She said she took a swig or two and it helped. Now I have not tried it, but who knows, could work.

This pg things are much better for me than the last ones where I miscarried (oddly). Not sure why...but I still have that constant funny feeling in my stomach that makes me not want to do anything!

I had m/s throughout my entire first trimester, specially that constant quiziness...yack! ginger candy worked for me (temporary solution, but I just kept a few in my purse and whenever I was feeling sick, I would just chew one of those!). You can find them in natural health food stores.

Carbs in general helped too...so pasta and bread ;) I had toast with cream cheese almost every morning, it was my comfort food. I tried to drink a lot of fruit/vegetable juice (mostly Odwalla, expensive I know!) in order to feel less guilty for not wanting to eat much more else (I had bad food adversion with meats, especially chicken). I also ate lots of tofu to make sure I was eating enough protein.

I have and have been going through horrible morning sickness too. I am now 10 1/2 weeks pregnant with twins. I had tried everything- saltines before you wake up, ginger ale, preggy pops, etc. Nothing seemed to help and I started to feel incredibly emotional, like giving up. To feel so horrible every day for weeks was taking its toll. I know that stress is not a good thing to be experiencing as it can affect the babies, so I started taking Brand label Zofran (a lifesaver!). The generic did not work for me. I take the ones that dissolve under your tongue. It is a personal choice, but for me, taking something was better than crying all day long and stressing out..
Best of luck!! The time does go by faster than I imagined and 12 weeks is finally around the corner..
Take care

Thanks to you all for the advice so far, i like some of the ideas - i think the sweet foods will help and ginger sounds good. I have some ginger ale and i'd say it helps a little, so i think other ginger stuff might work. Not sure where to get ahold of ginger candy... i guess i will try make a detour to the GNC and se if they have anything...

I guess the only magic cure is the medication. I go in on Friday for progesterone check, so i think i might ask for a prescription.... Its not really bad, just mild moderate nausea 24/7 and i just feel so blah from it!!!!

check natural health food stores for ginger candy. A lot of those supermarkets where they sell "organic" foods, etc tend to carry them too (wholes foods, for example), or those stores where you can buy vitamins and alternative medicines (homeopathic, etc). Do you know what I mean?

Hi there,

I too had ms during my first trimester. The temporary solutions (especially eating whatever I had on hand when ms started) worked until the ms became premanent. When I saw myself writing in a patient's file trying to conceal a vomit bowl on my lap so the staff wouldn't notice because I was starting to gag, I knew it was time to try meds! Diclectin is what is mostly prescribed here. It's mostly vitamins and minerals and is completely safe during the pregnancy. I took it from week 6 to week 12, stopped gradually over a week, and the ms never came back. It literally saved my life, and I'd do it again! Whenever you feel hesitant about ms meds, ask your pharmacist! They're usually far more knowledgable than your doctor! ;) it's their job after all!

Hang in there sweetie... I hope you find the best solution and that the ms goes away real soon!
