First Time For IVF I need info

Post by CAFirstInvitro »

So this is our first time with IVF and hopefully our only :) Can you'all give me some info of anything I might need to know. Have you guys noticed better chances if the male is the only factor in conceiving? So far I am in the beginning of the ivf process. They looked at my follicles and I have 5 nesting on each side without medication. Currently they have me on some birth control pill Ocerla or something like that and then I start Lupron around the first week of february. I think our chances are really great since they can't seem to find any abnormality with me. They have checked my uterus to see if i had pulps or stuff in there that would prevent ivf and I was all clear. Our only factor is low count, motility/mobility.
I'm 26 -DH 27
We just found out we have an egg quality issue
Low count, motility
4 insem

FEB/MARCH- BFN :(

I'm wishing you the best of luck and want you to know I was wicked anxious about the ER (egg retrieval). The shots aren't too bad although you might notice a little bruising and burning but its a small price to pay if you get a BFP (big fat positive!) You'll probably go into the doctor office every other day for bloodwork and ultrasound. It's exciting to hear how many eggs/sizes as each appointment brings you closer to ER. As for egg retrieval it was over in 12 min. and I was crampy/bleedy the day of, but the next day was back to normal. Plus when you're in recovery the doctor will tell you how many eggs they retrieved!!! I couldn't believe how easy it was and then another exciting call is when they tell you how many eggs fertilized! So good luck and I recommend you join a Feb/Mar IVF thread because there are other people in the exact same stage as you and you can encourage each other and ask all sorts of questions.

Hi.

I dont know if you believe in acupuncture but i believe that it helps both man and woman doing ivf.

My 1st and 2nd cycle was not successful.
For the 3rd cycle me and dh both had acupuncture and had herbs.
Now im 6month pregnant and we had the same problem as you :low mobility and low quantity.

Good luck
Anie :) Me 32, DH 34
1st IVF : Aug/07 - 6eggs but no fertilization :(
2nd ICSI: Oct/07 - test:22/Nov=BFN :(
3th ICSI: July/08; Testing:5th Sept-BFP :D

Thank you to both of you for responding. It is so nice to hear from someone else about all of this.

not hopeless yet:
what does I made it to 5dt mean. I know now what BFN means and I'm so sorry. I'm scared for a BFN. How do you get over that? I afraid I'll fall apart. We can only try this once maybe twice since we have to pay all out of pocket and for 2 ivf's is nearly $20.000 where I'm from. Did you do IVF with ICSI? I've also heard of assisted hatching. What are your thoughts on that?

Anie:
I've heard a lot about accupuncture would it be too late since we have just started with our IVF cycle. I haven't taken Lupron yet that begins in the first week of february. On your end ICSI. What does Test:22 mean. How many embryos did you transfer. Do you get to choose? please keep in touch with me you sound like you had similar circumstances and your positive outcome is really encourag

CAfirstinvitro Firstly let me say good luck.... the great news is you have age on your side, so you will probably get more eggs and better quality eggs than someone 10 years older !!

A 5dt is a 5 day transfer which means that they will transfer the embryos 5 days after they retrieve your eggs. At this stage they are more mature and called blastocytes. Other clinics transfer on day 3, when they are embryos and this is a 3dt (i had this).

For me, i was the problem in our infertility due to tubal issues, but i have seen time and time again that male factor issues are very successful with IVF. Usually with male factor, they will do ICSI to help the sperm fertilise the eggs, so you will probably have that...

As for assisted hatching, they usually do this on older ladies (such as me!!) as the shell that the implanting embryos hatch out of is a bit thicker, so they make a hole in it to help the little one break through and attach into your uterus. I doubt very much that you will have this....

Eat healthily, take your pre-natal vitamins and totally try to relax however is best for you, mediation, accupuncture, whatever floats your boat!!!.... and good luck :)

Thank you for the information. Dang I just looked at your signature thing. You are haveing triplets :) Congratulations!!! How many embryo's did they transfer? I'm wondering how many they are going to transfer for me. They told me they usually only transfer 2. I'm hopeing they increase our chances and transfer 3 altough I am scared of haveing triplets.

Ca-wanted to give you some more positive info. Our problem is also low sperm count/motility.In fact, after my eggs were retrived, (I had 15 mature) They were only able to find 8 sperm that were even slightly moving to do the ICSI-in fact, the doc said they didn't even look too great! But by day 3- 6 had grown/split just like they should, I had 2 put back & I am currently pregnant 30wks. with a healthy boy. In my opinion as much as I have read about, I am not a doctor and don't have the percentages but it does seem that male factor seems to be the easiest IVF problem to overcome. Not that ANY of it is easy!!!!! Just an observation. Good Luck & Baby Dust to You!

CAfirstinvitro Yes i am having triplets....Its kind of the luck of the draw i think.... In my first IVF we only got 3 embryos (i am older so make less eggs) and we put back all 3. Well none took and i got a BFN. Its usual for them to put back 3 if you are older, and 2 if you are in your 20's or early 30's.

So for my next round of ivf, we changed my protocol (different meds) and i responded much better and we got 9 eggs. Our embryos from these were better quality too, and my RE said lets be a bit more aggressive this time and put back 4, thinking that only 1 or maybe 2 would take. Well, of course all 4 took!!! We never found a heartbeat on the 4th, so 4 became 3 and here i am today...

I am also scared about triplets!!!! They will prob put back 2 for you as you are young with no other problems, good luck!!!!!

CA-Good luck to you during your first cycle. My wife and I did two cycles and on her second one is now 9 weeks pregnant with Twins. The doctor didn't find anything wrong with either of us so we fall into a small category of unexplained infertility. We transferred two the first time and my wife had a miscarriage and three the second time and here we are with twins on the way. Try to stay positive during the whole situation because it can be quite stressful. Try not to read into everything, yeah right lol, and hope for the best.

thank you all so much for your info. I love this site so much. I feel like there is a whole team of support and people who know how I feel and people to talk to about this. In my area everyone is popping out kids and doesn't understand the feeling. At one point I had 7 friends that were pregnate and they were complaining about the medical bills and I was so sad hearing them complain about that. They were complaining about hundreds of dollars on the miracle they were able to accomplish without heartache. My hubby and I are paying this all out of pocket for a CHANCE to get pregnate. It feels so good to hear people that know what I'm feeling and are going through the same emotions :) It just kind of feels like weight being lifted off my shoulders that other people are out there like us. Thank you to all of you for being here and responding to my messages.

Anie: Congratulations!!! I am so happy for you :)

jennywit: Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! I love hearing that. Thats what I keep hopeing. I love hearing that over and over that our chances are increased. My husband says without a doubt it is going to work the first time. I have been praying every night. I just repeat over and over Lord please send us our baby :) We've been thinking absolutely positve thoughts and have been relaxing a lot :) Oh and do you mind if I ask. How old are you and your hubby? Oh and 100 times CONGRATULATIONS!!! Oh and one more thing was that your first IVF you got a BFP?

Kas101: CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm so happy to hear your story too. That is so awesome!!! I watch John & Kate plus 8 a lot. She had 6. I've heard with multiples eat healthy and keep those babies in there for as long as possible :)

BIGREDIOWAN: Thank you also for your info. These stories are so comforting :)

Ca, You & dh have youth on your side. I am 36 & dh is 34. This was our first IVF cycle. We did have 2 failed IUI's. I know that with what I've read about ICSI gives so many men the chance to have biological children who otherwise wouldn't have been able to. It has been such a great blessing for me & my husband, and I hope for you & yours too. Best of Luck & remember to breathe, this is such an ANXIOUS process!!!!!

Thanks for the good luck wishes, I wish I could take credit for the saying. However, it's a saying that is on Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. I'm a huge Husker fan so that is where I got it from, to me it says who I am and what my life is about. Life is about going out and taking control of it, not just hoping you'll get lucky. The invitro process definately makes you try and take control of your life.

Hi All

This to is my first time on the discussion boards and I am not too sure on all the lingo wither sorry!
My husband and I are gonig through our third attempt at ICSI due to same issues as BIGREDIOWA, low sperm vcount and mobility due to a childhood illness.

Our first attempt retrieved 15 eggs, all of which fertilised and off these we had 9 frozen at blastocyst stage, the others didnt make it to the 5 day mark.

The egg retrevial process was a bit of a nightmare, I ended up back in hospital as I was in alot of pain for 5 days after the retrievial, since then all the process has been smotth sailing apart from the negative results!!!

It definately is a very trying process but I am a firm believer of things happening for a reason and we will all get our time, unfortunately for no reason, some of us have to go through alot more than others to get it.

We are due for our third embryo trnsfer on this Friday so we are very excited although anxious for the next blood test day again......

Best of luck everyone
