FET in FEB 2009

Post by Melo_P »

Hi

I wondered if there was anyone out there who was about to go through an FET cycle?

I jumped back on the train right after christmas so am expecting to transfer early in FEB with the singular embryo left over from my failed IVF cycle back in Novemer 2008,

Promised to myself that I wouldn't obsess but am so caught up already and just desperate to conceive. Please let this work.

Also does anyone know much about baseline E2 levels? I am pretty sure mine are reading very high (217 on day 3) but I can't seem to get much info from the clinic and am concerned that high levels might not bode well.

Best

I'm scheduled for FET 1/30. 5 frozen. I think it's impossible not to obsess.

Don't know about the baseline E2. My doc didn't even draw for it this cycle. I don't go in again 'til 1/27 and then they seem most attentive to lining thickness.

I am unsure on what baseline E3 is also, sorry.
Best of luck

Hi there

Good luck both on your imminent transfers!!

Siouxsie - its odd how every clinic is so different isn't it - my clinic for some reason never bothers to test for the lining (so of course I obsess that mine is paper thin!) maybe this is only on the natural non mediated cycles - as they do test on the fresh IVF. Is this your first go - or have you been through this horrid mill a few times now?? I hope this is the last time you ever have to try!! Big bags of luck to you for your transfer. Do you know how many they will put back and are they day 3 or blasts?

Susie - good luck to you too!! I know what you mean about the steam train! After 5 years of trying (monthly!!) for our first miracle - where we got lucky on go 2 - I have spent the last year trying to get lucky again - but have had nothing but failed thaws (x 2), failed transfers (X 2), and one miscarriage. Grrr. Hope this month and next are are lucky dates!

E2 - for Oestrogen. They usually measure baseline levels here along with FSH to look at ovarian reserve. The E2 level is less predictive then FSH on egg quality and likelyhood of conception I think - but have non the less found enough damning web pages on those evil internet trawls to have me believe my level might be high.

Anyhow good luck guys - I transfer next Tuesday 2nd Feb with one singular frozen day five Blast. Please let this one be the golden goose egg from the wretched batch of 18 embryos that only yielded ONE decent enough to freeze!!

Hugs and baby dust

I will also be doing a fet in feb. My transfer should be on either the 5th or the 6th. I have been through fresh ivf attempts, two resulted in miscarrage. We decided it was time to move on and will be transferring donated embryos. We had 8 blast donated and plan to transfer 2. This frozen cycle seems so easy compared to the fresh ivf! It is flying by. Good luck to everyone. Thanks for starting this board.
After 7 attempts (2 negatives/3 miscarriages), we have TWO miracle boys!! If you would like to hear our story, please visit http://www.ivfsuccessstories.info. Never give up, it can happen for you!!

Had my lining checked yesterday. It’s at 10.5mm (7 in the minimum they’ll proceed with) so we’re set to go. They also tested progesterone before I started the supplements. I normally would have asked more questions – about follicle size etc. – but I was having a really bad day so I kept pretty quiet.

I have done one fresh IVF, this is the first FET. (It was positive w/ twins, but we lost one at 7 weeks and the second at 14. We now have a greater chance of having ancephely again: 3-5% rather than 1 in 1000)

We have 5 3d. I don’t know the grades, but these were the lesser quality. We transferred the top 4 in the fresh cycle. Frankly, we were thrilled because the doc had told us not to expect to have enough to freeze any. We’re thawing all 5 and seeing how many make it.

I hadn’t heard about the E2 issue. Last spring mine was 36.8 on day 3. I was so distraught over the 12.8 FSH that I never thought about this and none of the docs mentioned.

From your signature, it looks like you had a successful FET already so here’s hoping you do it again!

Good luck! What day do you have your beta? Mine is 2/9.

Want to share anything about your decision to go to donor eggs? If this FET cycle doesn’t work, we’re planning to scrape up enough cash and debt to try once more. (We have no insurance coverage.) We could either try with my eggs again or go with my sister’s. She’s turning 35 in March so she’s not the ideal donor, but I like the loose genetic connection and we couldn’t afford the extra cost for an unknown donor.

We’re going out tonight for sushi – in the hopes that I won’t be enjoying it again for another 9 months. Thinking of you all. Trying to stay calm and positive.

Hi Siouxsie

Thanks for the well wishes, best of luck to you also. I am yet to confirm my BETA, I will find out tomorrow but I am pretty certain will be Saturday 7 Feb as mine is a day 5 blast transfer. Very anxious today with only one more sleep till transfer, not anxious for the tranfer itself as I find that exciting it is just the wait and test that folows the transfer!!

Good luck with your tranfer tomorrow!!!

Hi Mel, I am thinking about starting FET in February. I have also ONLY one embryo left from previous IVF and not sure if this is something I shuld be doing OR it is better to try for one more IVF cycle to increase my chances. This way they say it is ONLY 20%. What ur doctor says?

Good luck on the transfers tomorrow!! How exciting, hope everything goes perfect for ya'll.

siouxsie- How many are you hoping to transfer?? What if they all survive the thaw? We have 8 blast and we are hoping to thaw two and transfer two. I am really scared to transfer more than that, since they are good quality. I am the most worried about them surviving the thaw.

We are using donor embryos (5 day blast), and we decided this was the way to go after our second miscarrage. The doc seems to think that the embryo quality is just not good enough. We could have went with donor sperm, but we were worried about one of us having the genetic link and one not. With donor embryos we both have the same connection to the child and we get to go through the pregnancy and birth, unlike adoption. It just seemed perfect to us. The last miscarrage was really hard, and after four ivf attempts, it just seemed obvious to me that we needed to move to something else.

Melo- Have you found out anything else about your e2 levels? Does your doc say it is nothing to worry about? I'm sure they would let you know if they were concerned.

Good luck to everyone, and I hope all is going well.

Good question. If we’re lucky enough that they all survive, I guess we’ll discuss with the dr. and see what she thinks. She told me that they usually expect 80% to survive. (So with 8, you have great odds!) If we have 4, we’ll transfer all four. We did four on the fresh cycle. Two stuck. We lost one at 7 weeks and the second at 14 weeks.

Thanks for sharing about your decision. I’m trying my best to be optimistic about this attempt, but also thinking ahead to the next steps.

CT_irene
What % did the doctor give you for your fresh cycle? Our dr. said their FET success rate is 2/3 of fresh. There’s another thread on the board about FET success and there are definitely examples of ladies who hit it with one embryo.

For us, FET cost a lot less, so we figured we might as well try it before we go to another fresh Also, I didn’t really want those frozen embryos hanging out too long.

Did you guys hear the news about the octuplets?
http://www.latimes.com/news/science/la- ... 9248.story
I heard it on the radio driving to work.

I’m nervous!

Hi All

Looks like lots of us are transferring over this next week. Eeek!

Brit - wow EIGHT blasts!!! Thats amazing - surely at least a few will take! I was so gutted this cycle when we only got 2 decent embryos out of 13 ferlilized eggs.

You deserve success after those tries. Everything crossed for you. The negatives are so hard. I had an M/C earlier last year. Its so cruel to get so far and then have it taken away. Can only hope that the failed attempts last year increase probability of a positive this year!!

CT Irene - I have a lot of faith in the FET's. I've had two successful BFP's (one precious DD and one m/c) and both of these were from single day 3 embryo's on natural non medicated cycle. Meanwhile both my fresh cycles failed. I know many other people too with success on FET. My doc reckons 40% this go (yeah right!). But apparently they are having a good run on good quality embyro FET's - so hope mine is one of them!

Smiles and siouxsie - bags of luck on your transfers! You'll both start the board off with a big positive boost!!

Transfer day (Feb 5th) seems ages away. The only hard thing about this cycle really is that no matter what I try the whole IVF thing is always a really horrible contentious thing with my DH. Even just telling him the transfer day and asking if he could make it got him really mad and after yelling a whole lot (still not quite sure why) it looks like he won't be coming with me. So horribly have to go get a train and go to the clinic myself which just feels not so good   Makes me feel bit sad lonely and isolated about all this - but I can't let it get to me. I really need to stay calm to give this the best chance.

Good luck all

I went in this morning for bloodwork and us, and my lining was already at a 10.7. They seem happy about that. They set my date for the transfer, and I will be having it Thursday (5th)!! Hope the transfers went well today. Please let us know as soon as possible!

Welcome barbd, how many do you plan to transfer?

Melo P- It is good to hear your success with FETs. I am nervous about them thawing, I know that we are lucky to have eight. I would like to have some left over in case the first try does not work. How many of your embryos thawed, the first two times? Looks like we will be transferring on the same day!

Siouxsie- Hopefully you will be succesful this go around and you won't have to worry about making any of those decisions. I feel like you just know when it is time to try something else. We are also paying out of pocket and embryo donation is very practical financially also.

Good luck to everyone!!

I think the RE said we would like to transfer 3 but we will have to see the quality when they thaw. I am so nervous/excited. I have never done the FET so I don't know what to expect. Like do they put you to sleep(like the ER) or are you awake? The RE told me that he wants me to be on a two day bedrest after the FET is that normal?

BarbD- every clinic is different, but I have always been awake for the transfers. I think they are a lot easier than the retreivals. The only bad part is that you have to have a FULL bladder, and when they get done my doc makes me lay there for 45 min. This is like torture for me, but overall the transfers are really painless. I have to do bedrest also. (three days) It is nice for the first day, but then you get sick of laying there doing nothing. It will all be worth it in the long run.

Only a couple more days for you!!

Hope everything is going good for everyone. Talk to ya'll soon.
