Round ligament pain??

Post by Kas101 »

As this is my first pregnancy i need help from some of you more experienced ladies on this!!!

I went for my second u/s today (all 3 jumping around great h/b's and ALL measuring a few days ahead) and i mentioned to my RE that i have been having severe cramps, shooting pains in my ovary/groin area. They seem to come every evening and especially in bed and they are really bad. I first thought they were 'bathroom issues' as i have been very constipated, but since i reduced the PIO to 1ml every other day this has resolved itself and yet the cramps get worse....

The RE told me i have round ligament pain, and i dont remember hearing about this before. He said it may be more intense as i am having triplets and its about supporting my growing uterus. He said i will probably pop out in the next few days (after feeling my abdomen). Does this mean show??

Has anyone else experienced this?? (need reassurance that its normal) and what can you do when they grip you?? no matter how i move i cant relieve them and its been shooting down my leg a bit too  ...Any advice/comments gratefully receieved from this novice

Congrats on the three healthy hear beats! Gosh i can not imagine triplets! I have twins and it is hard (yet wonderful!) enough. YES they are most likely round ligament pains. I had them bad for awhile as well. They are worse at night and in bed at night because you did too much during the day believe it or not. That is when I noticed mine at least. Also if you get out of bed wrong that can do it also. However, if you start cramping in your vaginal region or getting contractions that is another matter. I could not always tell the difference between round ligament and contractions and went into early labor...so just pay attention and make sure your doctor knows!

I have had this even with just one. It comes and goes. And my understanding is it can start at any time in the pregnancy. I don't think there is much you can do about it.

Hey

I also had this starting around 18 weeks. It went away after a few days. I was told the same thing as Jamie by my OB doctor, there isn't anything you can do about it. You could can Tylenol to see if the helps with the pain though, but nothing to prevent it from happening.

Welcome to preganancy!! I have them even now. I can't roll over in bed sometimes becuase of them and standing from a sitting position is the worst!

When I complained to my doctor about it he said that pregnancy was just a miserable thing in itself and to get used to the aches and pains.
It does sound like that's all you have though, nothing more serious.

A nurse told me once that I would feel the pain in a "V" from my inner thighs up to just inder my belly button. I would imagine that it would be more intesnse for you with triplets.

You'll be fine and telling your babies to appreciate you for all this one day in the future
