Seeking information PLEASE!

Post by milpagan »

My name is Milly, I'm 37 and will be trying IVF for the very first time. Hubby & me tried several rounds of IUI with no success. Here's my thing...I have a general idea of how IVF works after reading 100 sites (lol) I seem to be working a little backwards with this. I was suppose to have my IVF consultation last week but my doctor had an emergency surgery to do. Today I went to my injection class and I have to wait until the 9th to see my doctor. My first menstrual day should be around the 4th and she said I would start BCP for 2 weeks. That's all I know right now and I'm wondering what happens next. I know I will start injections but don't know when or when the egg retrieval is performed. Could someone please give me a general idea of what comes next please please please.

I have not done a cycle with BCP but i think you will have a follie check after you have taken them for a couple of weeks. If you are adequately suppressed and you have no cysts you will start on injections. Everybody responds differently to stims. Some people will stim for 8 days then trigger for ER about 36 hours later. Others will need to stim for 14 days before it is time to trigger. It all depends on how your follicles respond to the meds.

Hi Milly, like you I'm a first time IVF person (although I won't have ET until mid April) and still getting to grips with the process. There seem to be so many different protocols, and some ladies take BCP while others don't, so it's all very confusing.

I think that what Liam'sMommy has said is right, but if you want more information or just company through the journey, why don't you join the 'March/April cycle buddies' thread? There are lots of lovely ladies on there who are currently cycling or will be soon, and it's a great place to get information and support. Quite a few of them are doing cycles with BCP's so they should be able to let you know what to expect!

Good luck to you, and hope to see you on the March/April thread.

Not every person will have the same exact procedure. In fact, the same person will have the procedure changed slightly from cycle to cycle until they find something that works for that person.

The BCP helps them to control your cycle. I took these for 2 of my 3 cycles. The BCP's don't produce any follies. After that, I took Lupron for a few weeks which also helps to control your cycle. This con help them to predict exactly when you will ovulate and when the do the retrieval. After that I started to mix the Lurpn with a low dose HCG. There was some blood work in there.

Then for 10-12 days I added the stimulation medicine in the afternoon while still taking the Luron/HCG in the morning. After a few days of taking the stimulation medicine they do a vaginal ultrasound to count and measure the follies. Blood work is also taken. Then every few days and at the end every day I went in for ultrasounds and blood work until they determined it was right for the retrieval. Then you take the "trigger shot". And then you will have the retrieval 2o days later. After the trigger shot you go in the next day for blood work and then the following day it is the retrieval.

Then they fertilize the eggs and check on them a day later to see how many fertilized. You will then either be scheduled for a day 3 or day 5 transfer.

Hope this helps. )

Amanda you were extremely helpful!! Thank you very much. When you say 20 days later they do the egg retrieval do you mean 20 days from when you started BCP?

opps that was a typeo. It should have been a comma. Retrieval is 2 days after the trigger shot, not 20 :P. That would be a lot :)

Glad it helped.
