Post by anna »

Hi Ladies,

I have been reading these boards now for a few months but have always been nervous about posting. Im due to start on day one of af in jan and thought i understood the process until last week we were told i`ll be on the "Flare Regime" My FSH is highish at 14 but my consultant said he was not concerned (although we are a little) and that i would start injecting on day one - 2 injections a day.

WEll he lost me at that point!

He did try and explain that they run along side the natural cycle and he would expect 4 - 6 eggs if i respond ok.

Can anyone shed some light??

We are do to see the nurse next week for our 1 to 1 counselling session and have been told she`ll answer all our questions but im just scared i`ll still not understand.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

anna

Flare Regime???

Post by phil »

hi anna, i hope this extract helps.

"Basically the Flare regime is a simpler and cheaper procedure for patients and it is very useful for women whose ovaries are slower in responding to FSH. The Down Regulation cycle takes longer and is slightly more expensive because of the extra days of Lucrin/Synarel use, but there can sometimes be smoother stimulation of the oocytes (eggs) with more oocytes maturing at the same rate and time. There does not appear to be any difference in pregnancy rates."

all the best for january start and welcome to the site. you'll get a lot of really great support here.

phil.

Flare Regime???

Post by fiona_lk »

Hi Anna,

The advantages of the flare regime (aka co-flare or 'short' protocol) were explain to me after having 2 failed IVF cycles on the 'long' protocol, neither of which were very productive in terms of the number of eggs (~5).

Basically, the long protocol totally shuts down your body in a reproductive sence - from that point onwards, the drugs control your cycle. The short protocol works only to inhibit the LH surge (and so stop the maturity and release of the eggs at a natural time) and uses the FSH you are already producing to help stimulate the eggs. I got the same number of follicles/eggs (5) as I did with the long protocol, but it was so much less intrusive and I felt much healthier after the whole experience - and I am a success story from this (now 23 weeks pg).

Good luck and welcome to this board

Love Fiona xxx
