Anyone going for baby #2 after a having baby #1 through IVF?

Post by Paytonsmommy »

Hello-

I'm 33-years old and DH and I will have been married 5 years this summer. After TTC for 2 years, we were blessed with our now 15-month old baby girl on December 31, 2007 through FET. Prior to that we had 5 failed IUI's...I had a tube removed through lap....we got pregnant on our 1st round of IVF, but mc which was followed by a DNC and then we got pregnant our 2nd time through FET in April of 2007.

I am currently SLOWLY beginning the weaning process ( I still BF morning and night) as I have to be done for 2 months before we can try for #2, which we're hoping to do this summer. I would love to talk to someone who's going for #2 as well, or even who's had a 2nd child through IVF to discuss the unique emotions, etc. that go along with this particular journey. Thanks for reading!

HI! There are a couple of girls, CTmichelle and Mellie that are going for #2 fairly soon, you can find them in the parents after treatment board for fall 2008 mommies. I am also bfeeding my 6 month old and intend to go through IVF again for #2, I am also curious as to how I will feel with stimms and stress while caring for my baby. I am not sure when to stop bfeeding him since I know it is good for him and it is hard to stop. Maybe when he is 10 months, not sure... :) there was also a thread not that long ago of girls going for #2...

Hi, Carrie,

I have a two year old son (2/26/07) from my first successful IVF (June 06). I just did a FET cycle and got the news yesterday that it was a BFN. I was very disappointed yet I understand that so many people face several cycles before they get their BFPs. I plan to cycle again in June. I was never ready before about Dec. to even get pregnant again. Jack, my son, was such a blessing that I wanted to enjoy him ALONE for as long as possible. I'm now ready as ever to offer him a sibling...but the timing just didn't happen with this last cycle. I hope it will in June when we go again. I'm very lucky to still have 5 frosties left. I hope that will be at least two more FETs if necessary. I don't think we can afford another fresh cycle. :( Best of luck to you.

Sarah - I know what you mean about wanting to enjoy the one you have...that's why I'm a bit torn about whether or not to go for #2 this summer or not. DD will be 18 months this summer. If I knew we were only going to want one more, I'd probably wait another year. However, I think we might want 3 and I'm 33 now and as you well know the odds start dropping dramatically after 35 and I want the best chance possible as do we all!

We paid for #1 totally out of pocket...spent about $30,000 but of course that included all the failed IUI's, testing, etc. trying to figure out what was wrong. There were loans, etc. involved in that. We by no means had that much cash lying around! The ONLY reason we could do it again so soon is DH has a new job and thankfully they offer $20,000 in fertility coverage.

I'm just worried that #2 won't work or will be really overly stressful, etc. and then I'll be hurting my time with my DD. I'm not putting it into the right words, but I imagine you know how I feel. It's so weird/funny how the 1st time around was for us, but this time it's all about giving our daughter a sibling.

Riogirl - Thanks for the info about the other threads...I'll have to check them out! :)

Rio- Thanks for the shoutout!

Paytonsmommy- I am all over these boards, I am part of the fall mommies thread with rio and I am currently in the ivf section for march/april cycle buddies.

I am currently stimming, going for #2. My beautiful daughter Ella is almost 8 months old, and she was conceived through our first ivf in December of 2007. We knew ivf w/icsi was our only chance to have a family, and were thrilled to find out insurance covered it twice in CT. When we first started trying, we were just praying we would get lucky one of those 2 times.

Well we got lucky the first, and I wasn't sure how I would feel trying again. But within months of her being born, all I could think about was giving her a sibling. I totally understand what you mean about #1 being for you and now it's about the sibling. My brothers are my best friends, and I knew with one more paid cycle through insurance, that we had to try. Since I chose not to breastfeed, I was pretty much able to try whenever I wanted, they reccomended giving my body 6 months to heal from c-section.

So here I am, day 6 of stims, about 6 days away from retrieval, and already feeling the anxiety of the pending 2ww. I am much smarter and informed about ivf this time around, but that may be to my disadvantage, I analyze everything now, where the first time around I just went with the flow. We are praying this works, but we are also preparing for if it doesn't. We have already taken out a loan to freeze since insurance does not cover it. We hope to be able to finance the funds for an FET if we are not successful, or maybe we might even want to try for #3! I envision 3 as my family also, either twins this time, or one more try in another year and a half.

My thinking was I wanted them close in age, so they could play together, and for my own sanity. I know it will be hard with 2 under 2, but people on here do it with twins and triplets all the time. I am out of career mode right now, in full mommy mode, and we have all the stuff already...so I know this is good timing for us. We also learned the hard way that infertility is unpredicatble and anything can happen, so we do not ever want to wait, or we may miss our chance.

Good luck with everything, and feel free to keep in touch with me...I look forward to hearing what you decide, and I will keep you updated on how this process goes while having a little one at home.
