Multiple miscarraige / live birth

Post by brit1612 »

I am just hoping to hear some stories of live birth after multiple miscarraige. Any input about the miscarraiges would be great also.

My husband and I have been through four ivf attempts and one fet. We have gotten pregnant 3 out of the 5 times, but all have ended in miscarraige. One at 9 weeks and 2 around 6 weeks. We have male factor infertility, and I am supposed to be fine. The first two miscarraiges were considered to be because of poor embryo quality, although they were all 8 celled on day 3. The FET cycle was done with donor blastocyst, that were great quality. The doctor seems to think that the third miscarraige was just a fluke and that the first two were related. We still have six donor embryos left and we plan to transfer again in June. I am really worried that there is some underlying cause and we are just going to "waste" these embryos. I am very excited to start again, but don't know what to think. I have been on baby asprin, and the doc is going to add lovenox shots this round. I have not actually been tested for the clotting disorders, he is just doing this as a prevenitive measure.

Any input would be great. I just want to know that people go through similar situations and eventually have a positive outcome. Thanks!!

Have you been tested for immune issues. I know some RE's believe in immunological stuff and others are totally against it. From what I have heard, my old RE wouldn't even talk about immune problems. There is a Dr. Beers that really believed in immunological problems that caused implantation issues. Just do a google search for Dr. Beers and you can find some info. Also I know SIRM is big on testing for immunological issues. They have a message board and free consults if you might want a second opinion. Their website is haveababy.com. I don't know how much I believe in all of it, but there has to be a reason for all of your m/c and the transfer of 2 8 cell embies on day 3 doesn't sound like bad eggs to me but of course I am not an RE.

Good luck

Brit1612,

I want to tell you how sorry I am to hear that you had so many losses. I also have had 5 miscarriages. Before our first IVF we had 3 miscarriages in a row (IUI) with the IVF we had a successful pregnancy that gave us our DD. After 4 more attempts at IVF (6th) we are now pregnant with another DD.

My RE said they don't know why some pregnancies miscarry , other than chromo problems (which we had) or clotting factors (which we had).

Everything that I read online said that the chance of having a successful pregnancy after multi miscarriages is about 60%, But I think that those rates are much higher if you rule out any problems.

I would make sure that your RE tests you before FET. Sending you lots of sticky vibes for your transfer, Best of luck to you!!! Next time will be your charm.

Hi, We were also only thought to be male factor only. However after 2 early miscarraiges i was given a complete blood work up, clotting/immune/chromosone me and DH. I was found to have a clotting problem, the baby aspririn worked for me on my next FET. i now know that i was pregnant many times over the years and the clotting issue caused miscarraiges within the first 8 weeks.

I have to urge you to ask your Dr to do the tests, as depending on the results could depend on your treatment. i would insist if you are paying out of pocket, easy for them to dismiss when they are not covering the costs.

Good luck

Hi Brit,

So sorry for your losses. I had several losses before our DS was born in October; 2 natural miscarriages (1 of those tubal) and 2 chemical through IVF.

During that time, I read on this board of other ladies taking low-dose aspirin during their IVF or FET. Though I was not diagnosed with a clotting problem, my RE said taking a low-dose aspirin each day wouldn't hurt.

The IVF following, I became and STAYED pregnant. PTL! Though not proven, I'm convinced taking the low-dose was the difference.

We are going through our 1st FET now and I'm taking one low-dose again.

Hope this helps!

Hi Brit1612,

I went through 9 rounds of IVF - two of them were miscarriages (1st and 4th attempts) and then on the 9th attempt it worked. The 9th attempt was also our first try using donor eggs - we ended up giving birth to our twins in September 08!

Good luck with your next round!

Thanks everyone for the encouraging words. It is nice to hear that ya'll have had healthy children after miscarraige.

Some of you mentioned the baby asprin. I was on the baby asprin during the last miscarraige and will be on it and the Lovenox during the next cycle. I have not actually been tested for the clotting issues because he is going to treat me as if I have one no matter what. I am going to be tested next week for diabetic issues. The doctor did not recommend it, but I have heard it can cause multiple mis. and I do have a few of the symptoms.

Thanks again for all of the support. It is so helpful.
