early U/S- Vanishing Twin?

Post by faith77 »

My 3rd beta was scheduled for Friday morning, but I had an appointment scheduled with my doctor this morning to discuss some questions I have had.. anyway, of course the possibilty of twins was 1 of my questions (based of my beta #'s see below). She offerred to do an early u/s as long as DH and I understood that is very early and not to freak out, we may see nothing or we could see something; and even the something can change by next week, again b/c it's early. So, needless to say I wasn't going to pass on this so of we went to the exam room. She saw 2 sacs, 1 she said was a bit "irregular" she said it is too early too say if it will be a vaninshing twin or if it will look good @ my original U/S day next Thursday.
My question is has anyone had an early U/S that can weigh in on accuracy or if 2nd U/S stayed same or changed? Any related info is appreciated. Thanks!

Faith77 I hope someone can answer this I had early u/s yesterday and one sac was empty and the other looked great seen fetal pole and all its very early is all the nurse would say and not to read to much into in my first scan isn't suppose to be till next week I hoping something changes by then I wish my numbers looked as good as yours I am 5weeks 3days so almost a week early when did you do your transfer I am 24dpo today and yesterdays beta was only 1207 so could be why we could not see anything. I'm keeping fingers crossed for us both and lots of prayers :)

This happened to me in 06 when I had my son. I was pregnant with twins but "Baby B" always measured much smaller and eventually disappeared. By 10 weeks he/she was gone. I never bled or had any signs of a miscarriage, and then my son went on to be one healthy singleton. My DH and I always prayed and pulled for "Baby B" but he/she just didn't make it. We've been happy as ever with our one son, so it worked out for the best. I do always wonder, though. Where did "Baby B" go???

I would say the concepts for good sacs are :

1. Symmetric sac shapes and also smooth contours of the sac, but would not at all worry if its irregular in the first scan this early. How many days post 5dt are you, was the mean sac diameter measured ?

2. Good interval growth on serial scans- more relevant

So, I would not worry at this stage.

I had the same thing happen. One normal sac, one irregular sac. The doctor told me up front that the second one probably would not make it. I never had my hopes up or anything, even though it did have a beating heart. It perished at 7 weeks or so. Personally I was ok with that since twins are higher risk and I wanted a healthy baby. If there was only one and it was irregular I would have freaked out!

Good luck! I hope it works out they way you want!
