I am immersed in news coverage as we speak. What a shock! The world has lost a music legend and generational icon, my heart goes out to his family and kids.

I was teary eyed driving into work this morning listening to all the tributes on the radio. No ones' music can make you feel the way MJ's did! I have a pleasant memory with each different song I hear. What a sad time! No one will EVER duplicate what he did in music!!!

R.I.P. MJ!

Really!? Sorry...the man was a pedophile. His children and the world are better off without him.

Everyone has positives and negatives in their own lives too. I guess I was brought up that if you didnt have anything nice to say then don't say it.

I beleive all these boards no matter what the topic should be filled with positive thoughts !!

And I was raised to protect innocent children from possible threats...and he was clearly a threat.

Wow! ajdec. The man died yesterday. Whether you like it or not his MUSIC touched people all over the world. We are not blind to all the craziness and drama that surrounded him in his latter years. We are neither naive or stupid. He led a very sad life from childhood until he was a grown adult. We'll never understand much of his personal life or what he went through. He was never convicted of pedophelia and no one knows what his relationship was like with his children (unless you of course got the inside scope on everything  ) It's ok not to be a fan but you don't have to stomp on everyone else's emotions and be mean. If the thread didn't suit you, you should have just moved on. Feel free to continue to bash the man the day after his death if that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, but how about starting your own Michael Jackson bashing thread? Meanwhile, those of us who are fans can express our condolences respectfully...as Rosario intended when she started the post.

cymplicity27- thank you for helping me defend him and his legency but also by keeping positive and loving posts on this thread and this whole website.. One think I could never understand as a human being is to bash someone so disrespectfully without even knowing all the facts- this man just died !!! How can you not think of his parents, family and children. It's a shame that there are people out there like that. One day I hope their never disrespeced in the same regards.

Our culture is fixated on celebrities.

Shame the guy died, but what's with all the news coverage? He was a phenomenal dancer, a good singer, lousy with his finances, and could not keep his hands off the little boys. If not for his fine, expensive lawyers, he'd have probably done prison time. What's going on with Michael Jackson is insignificant compared to what is going on with Iraq, Iran, Korea, Afghanistan, national health care, education, the Federal Deficit, and many other truly important issues.

I neither despise nor worship the guy. He was just another person.

If one of us died, there would be virtually no news coverage. Are we somehow less important? Less significant? No, not at all.

Only in an absurd society would an entertainer or athlete have an income hundreds of times as much as the President, and distract national attention away from truly important issues.

Sorry for the little rant, but national celebrity fixation really annoys me.

Just don't forget it's society who makes them as famous as they are. It's the public who will spend hundreds of dollars on tickets to see them perform or to buy their music. We are to blame for that whether it's a refined performer like Yanni or someone as troubled as Michael Jackson they would both deserve some sort of tribute.

Just like when the tragic accident of JFK Jr. happened - we all watched and our hearts went out to the families!! and there's nothing wrong with that regardless if he was famous or not we still felt bad ...

I wouldn't say we are less significant but if we did something memorable in our lifetime i would definetly loved to be recognized or remembered for it !!

Giving tribute to someone (a celebrity or not) to their families and friends is just plain being human.
