Flying in 1st trimester?

Post by Monkey Girl »

If anyone has any experience with this, or has been told not to: I am planning on making a short (1 hour) flight at 7.5 weeks. Does anyone kow of advice that it is better not to fly, given that the embryo/foetus is still in its most important developmental stages at this time? It never occured to me that it might be an issue until now. Thanks, MG

Every doctor is going to have a different recommendation. Mine was fine with flying during the first trimester when I asked her. I personally opted not to fly for a business trip around that time however because I was so violently nauseous 24/7 by then! :)

Absolutely fine. Especially with such a short flight. I traveled at 7.5 wks and the recommendation to me was to take a baby ASA daily and if the flight is long get up and walk around a bit every hour (to prevent blood clot).

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks both of you! I am definitely flying. I did some research as well, and the only issue that appears to arise is bad morning sickness (okay) - the other possible concern, but that they say has no impact on the fetus or embryo, is the exposure to radiation. That may be why certain Drs caution their patients. MG
