Integrity of blood work done

Post by kuldud »

Hi all,

I had my ET done on 7/26/09 - day 5 transfer.....and was scheduled for my beta today....Got my beta done and too bad that it came out to be negative.... :( ......I was totally devastated and right now dont know what to do at this point........had gone thro 4 IUI's before and all negatives :x ...........just mad at everything at this point.......so now my question is ......how much should we trust the blood work...........its only 9dp 5dt..........maybe it was too early that it couldnt pick up my HCG levels......my dr asked me to stop taking progesterone......but something tells me that something may still be inside and so i am thinking of continuing it till sunday and then take a HPT and if it turns out negative then to stop taking it.........i guess i have gotten really desperate......

I'm so sorry hon. I think your idea is a good one, but 9dp5dt is typical for a beta and is trustworthy. It certainly doesn't hurt to take one in a few more days though!

dogs is right, 9dp5dt is average for a beta, and I don;t want to give you false hope, but I feel the same way about being skeptical with the bloodwork. For my last ivf, I had decided if it was negative I would continue for a couple of days and check again at home. The only reason I felt that way was because I have read a few random stories on these boards about negative blood tests and then a miraculous positive after that. I don't see anything wrong with trying again in 2 days or so. But chances are the result will not change. Good luck with whatever you decide.

oh, and even though I said I would try again in a few days if blood work said bfn, I did not. My beta was negative and I just couldn't handle being devastated 2 days later, and prolonging another cycle. I just trusted it was a bfn since I had no symptoms and was pretty sure it was right. But if I had any doubt it was a lab error or too early to tell, I would have waited the couple days and tried again.

You need time to grieve. Allow yourself the time you need, and as the days pass, you WILL start to feel better. I promise. My heart breaks for you dear, and again, I am so sorry.

kuldud - sending tons of (((huggs))). Infertility sucks and it is so hard when we get our hopes up for IVF and it doesn't work. I think we all go into this thinking it has to work after all this time of infertility. Take some time to grieve. It will get easier as time goes by. Try and think about the next step, that has always helped me out. Good luck to you in the future.
