i have already been through 3 unsuccessful icsi treatments and would like to try a donor insemination. My doctors keep insisting that I continue to try the ICSI treatment as it may take longer cycles but with my last treatment I developed an infection that left me in bed for 2 weeks with crippling abdominal pains. After that I don't think I could bear that again let alone the disappointment of another unsuccessful attempt. Also, on all 3 cycle treatments I have never made it to the pregnancy date set & usually started bleeding after 7 days after the embryo transfer. I am 33 and concerned about my age and would appreciate it if someone could tell me if i can just have a simple donor insemination with or without the drug treatment. My husband is all for donor insemination as we are desperate to have a family or our own & I have been told by our local adoption services that I am too old to adopt. My husband has a 10 yr old daughter from a previous relationship and he was diagnosed with a low sperm count with poor motility and antibodies. I had a number of tests and a laroscopy which produced no abnormalities.
Hi Karen,

I've posted on the general forum in responce to your other posting, and noticed you're asking about IUI here.

You can do IUI with or without drugs. They normally allow you to go through 5 IUI without drugs and upto 5 with a low dose of follicle stimulating hormone. But this tends to be the build up to IVF, not usually after you've been through IVF/ICSI.

As in my post to Heather - you will have to go for counselling - it is compulsary with donor treatment.

The infection was probably just an unfortunate thing that happened - if they don't give you anti-biotics as a matter of course (as they do at MFS) then you could ask if you can have some if you decide to go through ICSI again.

Good Luck

Fiona
