I'm 40 and starting my stims on 11/6 for my first ivf. Very exciting and scary! Been ttc for 6 months. I have a BMI of 33 and the doc has told me this is a potential issue and could affect our success. I was doing Weight Watchers but that works so slowly for me and I end up eating a lot of processed crap. I started lowcarbing to try and maximize my last 3 weeks before I start meds.
Does anyone know of people who had success after losing a few pounds before ivf? Is it bad to lowcarb? I'm doing a South Beach approach. I just want to do what ever I can to be successful. I hear I may gain weight with the drugs.
I've been cycling for the last year.1 natural with stims, 1 IUI,2 cancelled IVF,1 failed IVF . I've learned to buy elastic pants for every season now.Even dresses I will try to buy in s-m-L sizes.Took my rings off a year ago and pretty sure they won't fit. I don't even want to know how much I have gained @ this point, don't get on the scale anymore. If you can lose some weight before it starts I would. I'm starting an FET now after this if it fails I might try to go on a crash diet and start @ the gym before I do another fresh.I already have hypertension since my pregnancy was borderline pre-eclampsia before.Plus the more weight I seem to gain more disgusted I feel about IVF.The plus side is I'll start looking like "Dolly" soon.

I gained 80 lbs during my year of medicated IUI's and IVF's...and have just now lost that 80 again. Alot of it was stress and letting everything get to me, too.
Sorry though, I dont know the answer to your question. I am hoping someone who does know will post.

I would do low carb, but not a NO carb. Just limit your carbs to the healthy carbs. Best to lose any weight that you need to lose before getting started.

Gemma Grace was born June 24, 2011!
My wife gained about 30 pounds over her first three IVF cycles, which didn't work. The fourth cycle worked. This was on a typical high carb diet.
After the pregnancy, she was on a moderately low carb diet - some fruit and vegetables, but no other carbohydrates - for about a year after the pregnancy. During that time she lost all the pregnancy weight and the weight from the earlier IVF cycles. We had another IVF cycle, which worked, and she did not seem to bloat up as much during the cycle; in fact she didn't gain any weight until half way through the second trimester.
I think moderately low carb would be fine. I would avoid switching to zero carb only three weeks before the cycle.
