12 Week Scan?

Post by Sarah30 »

Hello

I had my first scan at 8 weeks and 5 days yesterday and was quite suprised to see how little there actually was to see. We quite clearly saw the little heartbeat flicking away and the yolk sac floating at the top but apart from that it was just a shape with no detail? Did anyone else see anything more on there early scan?

We have our 12 weeks scan on 3rd January and just wondered what to expect to see on this one. I don't want to build up my hope to seeing little fingers and toes if it's not going to be any clearer that last times one.

God I sound ungrateful don't I, don't mean to, was just suprised at what we saw.

Also, do you know if they can tell the sex at 12 weeks or it that later on?

Sarah x

12 Week Scan?

Post by Wendy »

Hi Sarah, we had our first scan at 6wks and heard the heartbeat but other than that it was just a 'blob' but at 12wks it was a proper little person who was wiggling around all over the place, its quite incredible the speed at which they grow and change. Have you got a book yet - they tell you everything about whats going on each week and what to expect, well worth it, we really enjoyed reading it each week and putting a ruler on my belly to see how big he was. Also the site www.visembryo.com is great for giving you a guide as to whats going on. My dr said it was too early to tell the sex at 12wks, he said it was probably a boy at 16wks and it was definately a boy at 19wks, but people always say that unless you end up having the amnio (which I hope you don't as it was very scary) theres always the possibility the dr can be wrong. I believe some hospitals won't say now as people are sueing them !! But if you're anything like me, as long as its healthy you won't care what pops out on the day. Love from Wendy xxx

12 Week Scan?

Post by maggie »

Hi Sarah,

My 7 week scan was like yours except I had 2 little blobs with flickering hearts. I then had a scan at 10weeks and it was amazing how much our babies had grown into little people in just 3.5 weeks. And by 12 weeks, as Wendy said, they are pretty much formed just need to grow lots.

I found a couple of websites with lots of information they are www.babycentre.co.uk and pregnancy.about.com

If you look for the pregnancy calendars on these sites they'll give you a weekly update on your baby's growth and your changes too. Just to let you know that the babycentre site tells you that you are a week ahead of your actual weeks but what I think its getting at is that if you are 8 weeks pg then you are in your 9th week. Make sense?

Good luck.

Maggie.
