I had my egg retrieval today for my first IVF. I am having a lot of abdominal pain especially while going to the bathroom...also seeing some blood..is this normal? the RE did confirm after the procedure that I didn't have any signs of OHSS which I was worried about...please let me know if any of you ladies have experienced these symptoms and how many days did it take for them to go away? In total they got 12 eggs. Thanks.
however, if you spike a fever, i say over 99-100 you need to call your doctor!!! you could have an infection of some sort.
also, did they give you any pain meds?? if they did, take them it will help! tylenol just doesnt cut it. but if they gave you vicoden make sure you dont take tylenol on top if it. tylenol is in vicoden !!
i would not take any advil either, that can cause bleeding.
but mild/ small amts of bleeding is OK.
they should have given you instructions?? on what to look out for?
i had alot of pain and i did get a nasty UTI which i got antibotics for. it helped some, but im almost 9 weeks prego and i still am having enlarged ovaries issues..
for me right after my ER it was hard for me to pee too i kinda had to force it out. everything is so smushed in your abd and pressing on your bladder.. so you will be peeing alot or have a sensation. make sure to drink lots of fluids and cranberry juice. that helped too.
but if you all the sudden get a pain that's so unbareable in your abd , one of your ovaries might be flipped or turned and cutting of circulation. that's an emergency. but the way my doctor said i would know.. it ususally in the middle of the night and its pain you can't walk with! its that bad. but that's a EMERGENCY!! you need to go to the ER!
it does get better, but make sure you take pain meds and just take it easy! but if symptoms get worse, you need to call the doctor! or go to the ER to get checked out!
Thanks for the reply. My doc gave me prescription for percocet which I took once after the procedure then later in the evening I took tylenol as I didn't want to take such a strong medication again and again but I guess I'll take it again before bed so I can get some sleep. When I go to the bathroom to urinate I feel this weird pinching pain in the middle somewhere and I have to hold the urine and let it come out real slow. Hope it goes away before the ET. They did say I would see some spotting or bleeding but I was just confirming. I am just a paranoid freak these days!
I too had really bad pain after ER. It worsened throughout the day & by 9pm it was near unbearable. I took vicodin but still had a bad night. I also had the pain you are describing on urination. My husband wanted to take me to the ER, but I was in too much pain to move so I tried to sleep. Luckily, it was MUCH better in the morning and I was able to go to work.
Take the Percocet & have a good sleep. That's my advice. You should be much less sore in the morning.

I think it really depends on the person and each ER. My first ER was nothing, the second one I was doubled over in pain for 2 days, I could barely walk. Just take the prescriptions, take it easy, rest up and hopefully you will feel better by ET.

3rd IVF - 04/11 - Embies didn't make it to ET
4th IVF - Fall 2011??
Glad you're feeling better. The PIO isn't fun, I'm not going to lie... but it isn't THAT horrible either. Just remember to pull back to check for blood return before injecting so you don't hit a vein.
Good Luck!
