Hi everyone

This may seem an odd question but can anyone tell me if it's ok to have your hair coloured at a salon whilst pregnant? A friend has told me she's heard it's a risk due to the chemicals involved. However I've read that hair dyes are safe to use, so I'm now confused. I have 3 inch grey roots to cover but I'm not going anywhere near a salon if there's any risk involved!

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Jules x
I have heard the same stories. I spoke to my hairdresser and she said that they weren't true. However I get my hair highlighted and I asked her to keep the dye away from my scalp just incase.

In fcat I'm getting my highlights done on Friday so that I am looking my best for my big day (max 3 wks!).

Hope this helps.

Love
Dee x.
Jules,

I was exactly the same, but I did the same as Dee, just make sure they keep the chemicals off the scalp as much as poss....and to be honest the main problem for me was the smell of the chemicals combined with the quesiness and later heartburn didn't make it all that fun...but if the end jsutifies the means (no more grey roots) then do it!!! (you can always ask for a scalp massage at the time ...very nice!!!)

Nicky
Hi Dee and Nicky

Thanks for your replies. The only thing is if my roots need doing they have to cover and obviously touch your scalp so I'm still concerned about that one.

I've asked another pg friend to ask her midwife, so I may get an answer tomorrow.

Good luck Dee – wow 3 weeks will soon come round!!!

And yes Nicky I could certainly do with a scalp massage and take your point about the whiffy chemicals!!

Thanks again guys

Jules x
Hi Jules
I am in the same boat as you regarding grey roots. I really need them doing but am a little nervous after reading your post....did you hear back from your midwife in the end and did you get them done? I have an appointment on the 21st which I would really like to keep - not only do I still look bloated from the drugs (only 5 weeks pg) but hair looks a right sight!
Any advice really appreciated.
Hope you are feeling swell.
Love, Michelle
I've never heard that hair dye can affect the pregnancy, rather that it can just react badly with the hair due to the chemicals, i.e, send it a funny colour.

Probably made things worse now, you'll all be thinking that your roots will end up green!

I may of course be talking out of my backside though, wouldn't be the first time!!

Suzanne.x
Ive been hairdressing for 21 years and we have this question all the time , in my experiance, no it wont go a funny colour, yes if you are sensitive to smells the chemicals could over power you ( v slim chance ) and the colour dosnt go any further than your scalp . The only thing I would be carefull about is if your hair has become weak due to horemoans but even then you could have a test done before you have it done just ask your hairdresser to do a test. I have had 2 members of staff that were pregnant and delt with products every day and they were fine . Hope this helps! I am now in the middle of my 2nd attempt of ICSI.
Traci
