I am a little concerned about what I now call my pregnancy that never ends. I had a miscarriage that started on 2/14/10. I was 5w5d along. My hcg level was around 4100. It quickly dropped down and 3 weeks ago it was at 41. I went back in today and got redrawn and it hasn't dropped at all?!?! I am still at 41. This devastated me for 2 reasons...1) It sucks to know that you could take a home pregnancy test and still get a positive a month after my miscarriage. 2) I was told I can't do an FET until my levels drop to 0 and I have one regular cycle after that. The nurse mentioned developing antibodies, but I don't get what this implies. Will it make it harder to get a BFP later, will my levels ever go to 0 or am I cursed to be forever able to get a BFP when indeed there is 0% chance of pregnancy? It feels like fate just laughing at me at this point. I don't mean to seem so dramatic but I these results just bring up the bitterness of my miscarriage again. That coupled with not knowing what this means/implies just doubles the feeling of confusion. So, have you ever heard of this happening before? How is it dealt with? What is the outcome?

You may have some lingering placental tissue producing hCG. It happens from time to time. You cannot cycle with those levels. It would almost certainly fail. Once you get it resolved, your chance of success should be restored. Lots of women have extended exposure to hCG (pregnancy) and have another pregnancy shortly after. Did you get a D&C?

Samantha - A little hope....I had a m/c in December at about the same number of weeks as you did. My numbers did drop rapidly to zero and I was able to then move on to my 3rd FET and I am now over 7 weeks pregnant. So, it will happen and I understand your frustration.
Me: 34 DH: 36
1 son conceived naturally (5 years old)
IVF #1 - OHSS All 12 embies frozen
FET #1 - BFN
FET #2 - BFP (m/c 5 1/2 wks)
FET #3 - BFP!!
Last h/b = 169! IT'S A GIRL!!
Ghost, No I didn't have a D&C done it was never even offered. I finally have started my period and now the numbers are dropping again. Big sigh of relief here. Looks like you were right and it was just a small piece of retained placenta. The whole antibody thing was scary and confusing to me. I don't really think that I am in any rush to move forward to the FET at this point. I was thinking of waiting until January to try that route. The only thing holding me back is that at that point I am supposedly on the down side of the numbers, I turn 36 in June. What do you think Ghost? Is it better to jump right back on the saddle due to age or wait awhile, lose a few pounds, relax and heal and try in January?
Thanks a million for your advice, help and support!

January is pretty far away. Why such a long wait?
