Post by kim14 »

Does anyone know any more info on this. Im really excited that i am 6 weeks prego with twins but my dr was really cautious about how the miscarriage rate is higher throughout preganancy with twins and it really made me nervous.

Hi Kim! I am also pregnant with twins. Tomorrow marks week 10! woo whoo! I too am a bit nervous about this too but I think I would be even if only I had one little bean in there! Don't drive yourself nuts searching the web for stats on this. You will not find a definite answer! Just eat well, get rest, stay hydrated and follow all of your OB's instructions. Keep a positive frame of mind and expect things to be totally fine! Since the week I found out I was preggers I've had some sort of super light spotting or discharge on and off. Had one scarey bleed two weeks ago but it was just two small subchorionic hematomas. All is ok. I have two separate sacs...most likely fraternal b/c I had two embies transferred. What about you?

Hi Kim. I'm a first time pregnant person. It's not been as fun as I thought it would be...given I'm apparently a person who is a regular spotter. And with the added nausea that comes and goes...I pretty much feel like crap most of the week. We are so thrilled to be having twins so that we don't have to go through any more IVF or pregnancies, but man alive, we are clueless. hehehe. No experience all at with kids or babies really. We really want them so we both have a positive outlook about it. I just have this feeling we have no idea what we are really in for. hehehehe! DH is already looking at a new car for me, having a custom built changing area put in the room that will be the nursery and looking at different kinds of cribs for twins. hehehe. It's quite cute. What was the cause of your bleed/spotting? All ok now? People have told me spotting can be ok...and my OB said it is common, but he'd prefer not to see it. But all looked ok with me but I can't exercise right now he said. Which is hard b/c I was a regular exercise person prior to this! So I just do some light yoga stretches and walk the dog. How are you feeling otherwise?

I agree with Karen, don't worry yourself. Think positive! I have a subchorionic bleed and have been bleeding for almost two weeks, it's all been pretty light with the exception of the first two days of it. I got to see my two little beanie babies twice and all is well. I am still scared something might happen, but I try to force all of those scary thoughts out and think of both of them growing healthy with strong heartbeats. I imagine what it would be like after they are born and such things like that. You can google all you want and try to find stats, but all that is going to do is stress you out. You don't want to picture yourself as that statistic. You want to imagine yourself in the other class, the one that has two healthy babies! Good luck!

Thanks ladies - yes we have friends with a couple of sets of healthy twins but the doctor was just very cautious about it and it really made me nervous. Karen - what kind of cribs are you looking at for twins? My son had really nice furniture but i think these kids may get something more modest if we have to get it all in one room and buy 2! I dont even know whats best- do twins share a crib or not? Ive heard both. My son was such a squirmy guy that he needed his own bed for sure! Will you keep working? I dont think 3 kids in daycare is an option for us so i think ill be taking a couple of years off. Hoping i can work as close as possible to my due date but ill do whatever the dr recommends to get these beans out healthy!

Hi ladies, firstly congratulations to you all on expecting twins. It is the best!!! I have 20 month twin boys non iddentical. I also had a bleed between 6 and 8 weeks, i passed the clot and both babies were fine it was between them. Bleeding is very common with twins, just try not to anylise everything or you will drive yourself crazy. look after yourself, eat healthily and listen to your body.
On the work front i managed to 32 weeks but it was a struggle. If you have an office based job you may be ok. I had my boys at 38+2, perfect in every way.
Good luck

Kim- We are looking at what is called "mini-cribs". Essentially they look like a regular crib but just a bit smaller. So we'll be able to fit two side by side in their room. I don't think I'll do the co-sleeping thing. Eventually we'll need two cribs anyway so might as well get it set-up that way from the beginning. We plan to also get a twin bassinet to put in our room for the first few weeks. I'm so excited to meet my little babies!

Beachbaby- Thanks for sharing your story. So happy to hear your pregnancy was ok and full-term! We hope the little boys are doing well and you are not too worn out! HA!

Beachbaby - Stories like that always make me feel better. As psoitive as I try to be, there is always those thoughts trying to force their way in. lol

Karen - I never heard of mini cribs. I will have to look into that and see if that is right for us. I have heard a lot of good things about co-bedding. I think I might do that for the first few weeks to 3 months. Of course we will get two cribs, but maybe have them share for a little while. I just saw on Discovery Health yesterday how much twins thrive that way, but I have plenty of time to research it further. :)

I was never told about increas erisk of miscarriage - I too spotted at between weeks 6-8 and at that stage only thought it was one baby - did not find out till 12 week scan that it was twins

Arrived safely at 38 weeks after being induced - they are so precious but hard work - start planning your support network now to help you ! - I worked to 33 weeks but the last 5 weeks of that I was luicky enought to be ab  le to work from home 4 out of 5 days as I did alot of driving with my job it was too ucomforatble and after 35 weeks I could not fit behind the wheel to drive anyway !!

I had no m/s either and am sure that is down to the accupuncture - i did have the most horrendous indegestion thought from about 14 weeks and was virtually on intravenous gaviscon!

Good luck xx

wishfull27,

Just a quick question. You didn't find out it was twins until 12 weeks? Did they one see one baby on the early scan? Just curious, as I had my first scan this week, one baby with heartbeat seen, but had fairly high beta #'s, your situation kinda has me wondering!

Thanks,

Ronda

Ronda - You never know, you might have more than one in there. Remember, the ER doctor only saw one and assumed because of the bleeding that I was miscarrying a possible twin. Then the next day the u/s tech found both babies at 6w5d. The u/s machines that the doctors use aren't very good. They are blurry and they can't magnify as much as the tech's machines can. So once the baby(ies) get bigger or you have a true u/s, you could always be surprised with more than one. :) I am glad I asked my regular doc for the tech u/s, it gave me awesome news and great pictures. Even the pictures we got from the RE at 7w were so much worse than the one given to us by the tech that there is no point to even show them off. All you can see is little vague blobs and mostly just a sac. In the many that we got from the tech, you can easily see the babies and the yolk sac as well! Do you think you might have two in there afterall? How exciting!

Steph,

I sure hope there are not two in there, but the u/s was done by the RE nurse and she kept looking to one area that was dark and not saying much. She said all she saw was one sac, so I hope that its. Its just interesting how you hear stories of people being told its one baby and ends up being two. I don't want to be that person however!

Ronda - Then I hope that is all you have! Maybe the dark spot was a blighted ovum and that is why your levels were a bit high? Either way I am glad for your one healthy growing bean. :)

I haven't heard much about a higher miscarriage rate for twins, other than vanishing twin syndrome very early in pregnancy. I totally understand the worry, though I dont think it ever goes away. I have been pretty mellow most of the pregnancy but the day the third trimester showed up the worry meter went through the roof!

For sleeping we purchased two mini cribs and though there are no babies in them yet, I totally love them! They are super cute! It's more difficult to find bedding for them and especially difficult if you want organic bedding. Organic bedding is important to me so I am having two mattresses made by a local company and have found organic "port a crib" sheets which are the same size as mini crib. I'm having to sew my own bed skirts so I can have a pattern that I like, given the limited options I can find.

Good luck to all you soon to be twin mommies. I can hardly wait for mine to get here!!
