When will I believe I am pregnant?

Post by echazen »

Hi all...
I am new to posting on this site. I just received the news that I am pregnant after having had a miscarriage and gone through IVF. It is hard to actually believe that I am pregnant. I keep checking for blood every time I go to the bathroom. The only pregnancy symptom I have is feeling tired, which can be attributed to so many things, and doesn't make me feel any more secure. Any suggestions on how to buy into the pregnancy. My husband wants me to be excited, and instead I feel numb.

Hi
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I was exactly the same on my 1st pregnancy after IVF. I had waited 6 years for it to happen and then when it did I couldn't get really excited about it as I was so worried something would go wrong. All my friends kept telling me I should be happy about it but I guess when you've been through so much to get to that point its not that easy. Of course I was happy but I didn't really quite believe it. The morning sickness kicked in at about 8 weeks and lasted until about 13 weeks, which, although not pleasant made the pregancy more real to me! LOL! After about 12 weeks I started to relax and really enjoyed the rest of my pregnancy. When did you get your BFP and will you have an ultrasound? I bet you will feel more reassured after that.

I've just been through IVF again and got a BFP on Tuesday. I feel a bit more relaxed than last time but still very cautious as its very early days. I won't really rest easy until my scan in 3 weeks time to check all is ok.

What you are feeling is perfectly normal after having been through what we have to get pregnant.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Being through everything we all have been through, it is a little hard to believe it is real. Once you start to have symptoms, that will help you feel more preggers. After seeing the heartbeat, it will be even more real. Remember, after a heartbeat is detected, your risk goes down for miscarriage. I stay reassured not just by the u/s but the b/w results. Numbers are going up and as long as they are, it will keep me happy until my next appt. Stay positive, imagine your baby growing strong and healthy. Try to keep those negetive thoughts at bay. I know they sneak in, it's hard to push them out, but try! Drink lots of water and eat well, follow your doctors instruction and all will be fine. :)

Emily,
Enjoy being pregnant, congratulations!! I can honestly tell you that i'm 34 weeks and I still haven't totally accepted it. I can feel the babies move and kick and squirm and I have even had morning sickness the entire time, but I guess since i went through a miscarriage too, I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop, as bad as that sounds. Until I have their little bodies in my arms, I don't think I'll fully accept that they are here. I still look at the TP every time out of habit too, but I was a bleeder early in this pregnancy. One thing that i've tried to do in this pregnancy though is be cautiously optimistic, so when I have my moments of doubt, I just tell myself that it's all going to be fine. I don't think we could ever stop worrying though, not for the next 18+ years! Good luck to you and just try and relax and enjoy the ride! You'll have that baby in your arms in the next 8 or so months!

Hi

Congratulations. Don't worry your feelings are totally normal. I didn't believe it til I saw the heartbeat and in fact felt really ill that day due to worrying. I was lucky and had a reasonably easy pregnanacy and at times didn't believe it at all. Once he was moving it was easier. Having just given birth it is now real!

Take care

There are several symptoms that you should consider to believe that you are pregnant. Pregnancy symptoms differ from woman to woman and pregnancy to pregnancy; however, one of the most significant pregnancy symptoms is a delayed or missed menstrual cycle. If this happen to you maybe you are now start pregnancy.

Echazen-- I share your feelings, I think. I just found out that I am pregnant, and I am having trouble trusting this pregnancy thing. Elated, yes! But also scared silly. It's going to be a long, very long road. We lost our baby at 2 months-- he was born early, but he was compromised. Before that I had a miscarriage. I am trying to tell myself that we have been blessed to get this far...and whatever happens, happens. I try to believe and enjoy the moment. But it is very, very difficult.
