Hi Becky,
We have our last scan next friday and are going to try and find out..my dad and nan are both dead against it..but we really would like to know..it's a personal thing really but I would like to call baby 'him' or 'her' instead of 'it'. Also we are redecotating the spare room and it would be nice to choose blue or lilac accordingly.
Having said all that sometimes they can't tell if baby is shy or in the wrong position so we will have to wait and see...
So exciting isn't it??!!
Hope you are enjoying your long awaited 9 months too...
Lots of love
Kirsty
x

Welllllllllllll

I was desperate to know the sex of the babies and then at the 12 weeks scan I FORGOT TO ASK!!! I phoned the clinic the next day to ask if he'd written anything on my notes to indicate but she said he hadn't and wouldn't have told me anyway (strong believer in not spoiling the suprise).

After a few comments from the nurse about spoiling the surprise and taking away half the fun of the birth and birth announcements I have decided not to find out the sex of the babies. After all, I was going to do the nursery in a neutral colour and brighten it up with pictures and things and clothes can just be white until we know what they are.

So, now I'm a convert and beleive it's best not to know. Plus there is also the possiblity of them getting it wrong!

Sarah x

Hi there

I'm now 30 weeks with twins. We found out at the 20 week scan. (I thought the babies sex could oly be detected at 16 weeks) It's really fantastic knowing. I feel a much closer connection with my babies and feel that they have developed personalities already. Shopping has been easier as well - we can choose any colour we please. People advised us against knowing we couldn't really understand any of their arguements - it doesn't take away from the birth and what is 'natural anyway'. Funny thing was all those who advised strongly against knowing still insisted on being kept in the loop. People have very peculiar attitudes when it comes to reproduction and babies as I'm sure we've all encountered the arguement that 'IVF is just not natural' before. It's not really important what sex they are although I have to admit I'm relieved that I'm not having 2 boys as they are completely exhausting but I don't think it really matters. I'm having a girl and a boy. We've choosen the names and everyone knows those as well (except my family who are much too opinionated and would try and talk us out of our choices).

Good luck and run with whaatever makes you feel happy but it's just as exciting knowing in a different way.

Good luck with your pregnancy

Mandsx

Hi Becky

We found out what we were having. At our 23 week scan we found out we were having a girl and 4 weeks later found out that the other one was a boy. We partly did it for logistical reasons; with buying double the stuff it was easier if we knew colours to buy things in. But as Mands said, it really helped me to get to know my two before they were born; I could link their movements and behaviour for scans with whether it was typical girl or boy behaviour. My daughter always seemed to hate it when we went shopping which really worried me as a shopoholic. But she now loves it so she was obviously trying to tell me that she wanted to be out and joining in!

Jules

Hi Becky

We've choosen Oscar and Caitlin although that's subject to change following the birth. Saw them this morning, consultant tried to catch a picture of the little girl opening her mouth but it's a bit mirky. Due to a series of complications (The little boy tried to create a little brother for himself so I was essentially carrying triplets, and feotal surgery at 22 weeks risking both babies, I'm now a nearly normal twin Mum again. Every day at the moment is an achievement reinforced by a repeated congrats from medical staff when they see I'm still holding on. It would have felt bizzaar to have as many difficult conversations as we've had with medical staff and between myself and dh referring to our babies as twin 1 and twin 2.
Told this morning that I'll be heading for a CS at 37 weeks if I can hold on that long. I've got everything crossed.

Look after those bumps!

Mandsx

Hi Becky & everyone else

We didn't ask the sex of our babies at 20 week scan. Hubby is definate that he wants to wait for the surprise when they're born and I'm sort of half & half about wanting to know. Trouble is if I find out, I won't be able to speak to DH without letting it slip and won't be able to buy anything in pink or blue without hiding it away from him, so I reckon I'm going to go along with him and wait and see??!!

It is very tempting to ask when they're scanning you, but I think it does spoil the surprise on birth day if you already know.

Luv Rachel X

Hi all
we found out at the 22 week scan and it's been great knowing the sex. You can actually start to assign a little personality to your bump. The way we looked at it there will be enough surprises on the day and we would rather know what we were having to be really prepared (it's a boy by the way...little Joshua)and due on the 22/8
Good Luck
XXX
Terri
