They had my husband ejaculate and discard the night of the trigger, too (both times), so essentially 36 hours before the transfer. Not sure if they change that if there are any sperm issues (low count, low motility, etc.).
We weren't really expecting retrieval on Thursday (more like next Sunday), so we, ahem, 'produced a sample' (the good old-fashioned way) on Monday night. (I triggered Tuesday evening) I guess we should be okay!
(too bad we couldn't, ahem, 'celebrate' the good news!)

The longer time we were told may have been something to do with needing ICSI. The first time it was 3 days and we had to have ICSI, the second time was 5 days and we had a choice between ICSI and IVF once they had checked the sperm. So who knows, but for us the longer was the better
