Helen's Update

Post by Helen G »

Morning girls!

Just thought I'd let you know that I've just had to spend a couple of nights in hospital! On Tuesday afternoon I had a bit of blood when I went to the loo (boy do I know how you girls feel that have had a lot of bleeding now - this was my first lot!). There wasn't enough of it to go onto my knickers, it was just when I wiped (too much info? sorry!).

Anyway, phoned up the hopsital and they told me to go straight to the labour ward and get it checked out. They hooked me up to a CTG machine (fetal monitor) and the boys were fine and I'm definitely not contracting. Had an internal (what joy) and they could see a small patch of blood on my cervix. They told me I'd need to stay in for observation and that they wanted a clear 24 hours of no bleeding before they'd let me go home. So I ended up staying in for 2 nights. Didn't have any more bleeding the next day and they wanted me to have a scan before they'd consider letting me go home. Didn't get the scan until 2.30pm on Thursday - can't believe they made me wait that long! That was good news - no sign of any bleecding in the uterus or anywhere near the babies!

They've put it down to one of those things! No explanation for why it happened - my cervix must have been irritated by something. I've never had so many people asking me if I've had sex recently (the answer, by the way, is no!). Even though this doesn't do any harm, it can irritate the cervix and cause bleeding. Never thought I'd be pleased to say that I haven't had sex for weeks!! Needless to say it's not on the top of my list after this scare either!! :-)

So, apart from frightening the bloody life out of me - everything appears to be OK. It's certainly given me a bit of a wake up call on taking it easy. No more hoovering and painting for me! DH is going to have to brush up on his domestic skills!

Even though I'm not planning on it happening again (pleeeeeeeeeease babies), I'm going to pack my labour bag this weekend just in case. On Tuesday, I jumped straight in the car to the hospital and dh ended up having to go home and get me clothes and stuff for the stay.

Anyway, they can't come yet as I've not got married yet! That's 4 weeks today, they have to wait until then! I've got an appointment with my consultant on Monday and will get to have a scan again so hopefully everything will be settled down by then!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

LOL Helen xx
29 wks & 3 days

How horrible for you Helen, but I'm sure the hospital are right and it's just "one of those things". Hopefully you won't get any more now. At least now you've got your bag packed!!

Take care - love, Jo. XX

Hi Helen

Glad to hear that everything's turned out OK with you and your boys.

I had exactly the same thing at 25 weeks as we were driving up to Scotland for Christmas and my sister's wedding. We diverted to the nearest hospital (Crewe) and I was in overnight. I have to say that in a funny way it was quite useful 'cos I'd never stayed in hospital before and that was one of the things that was worrying me about the birth. And the staff at Crewe were fantastic - they put my local hospital to shame. Again it was my cervix and they said that it's very common in twin pregnancies. And yes, the first question we were asked was whether we'd had sex, as if I looked as if I had the energy!

Take care and keep doing that resting - DH can DEFINITELY do all the domestic stuff.

Jules

How exciting does life get!
Take care of you and the boys. How are you both doing with names by the way?
Love
Tracey
xxx

Helen - just to echo the others erally - you must have been terrified and I'm so glad that everything's OK! Definitely look at it as a sign to rest up, perhaps you'd been overdoing things a bit. My sister in law had twins and she got to 37 weeks - mainly by relaxing as much as possible and doing things like meditation, so it's a good excuse to chill out and save your energy.
Keep well, love Sally xxx
