Hi All,

We are due for ICSI cycle no 3 in October and because I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks on my last cycle, the cause of which was a chromosome problem, we are having Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis.

Has anyone else had this procedure or found out that they miscarried due to a chromosome abnormality?

I would be really interested to know, am finding that this process is now getting very complicated & scarey (if it wasn't bad enough already!!).

Thanks, Rach X

[Edited by Rachael on 18-Sep-03 14:49]

TTC for 7 yrs (have severe endo and pcos and hubby has v low sperm) until became pg after ICSI cycle last feb. Now am the lucky mother of perfect little boy called Joshua born last october.
Hi Rachael

I thought I would reply although I haven't had PGD yet, I am also being advised to have it for my next cycle. I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks with my first cycle and a negative with my second cycle. So I am going to a new clinic (ARGC) who have advised this (and other things) for my next cycle, which is likely to be in Jan.

I have read some things about PGD, which are conflicting - some say it isn't proven, etc. But me and DH think it's best to try it rather than go through the pain of miscarriage or another negative (although there's no guarantee of course!). Unfortunatel due to an oversight, my clinic did not do any analysis of my miscarriage so we don't know that it was due to chromosomes, but as 90% are then we are assuming it was.

Anyway, sorry for rambling on. Good luck with your next cycle.

Tina

Hi Rachel

My second IVF attempt (1st pregnancy) ended in m/c at 8½ weeks and was due to a chromosonal abnormality. I had FET a few months later and am now 26 weeks preggy with twins - didn't have any pre-implanatation testing done - my consultant reassured us that is was unlikely to occur a second time and that was good enough for us. (Didn't know about the testing mind you).

Just wanted to share that with you as it sounds similar to your experience.

Sarah )
Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your replies, I really appreciate them.

We have been out tonight with friends who we have not seen since my miscarriage. My friend was just a few weeks ahead of me with her pregnancy so it was really quite hard to see her tonight. Anyway, coming back to find your replies has cheered me up!

Kirsty, really nice to talk to you again! Will keep you posted on what happens. I hope that everything is o.k. with you, when is your due date?

Tina, I go to the ARGC too. I have been happy with my treatment there even if we have not yet got the result we want! I feel that they are really on the ball with all the latest techniques etc.

Sarah, Thanks for your reply, it really helps to hear of a successful outcome after a previous miscarriage. I hope to god that I am lucky enough to get a result 3rd time round too.

Night Everyone & Take Care,
Rach X
