IVF newbie

Post by caesarsangel »

Hi,

I am on my first cycle of IVF. I never thought I would end up on IVF but here I am. I am in a brand new marriage after my last one failed due to the loss of spontaneous triplets. I have a son conceived naturally to my last husband and am now trying to add to our family with my new husband............phew that was confusing.

The infertility issue isn't me (although I am 39) it is actually with my husband who had a vasectomy some years ago. IVF wasn't something we took lightly and it actually means invasive procedures for both hubby and me.

So...........this is a first time, and an eye opener for both of us.

I had my US last Friday and found that there are 5 follicles ready to be retrieved this week (Wednesday actually). There would have been 3 that could have been retrieved today but he wanted to wait for the last two.

My regime has been:

Day 1: call clinic
Day 2: synarel morning and night
Day 3 - Day 13: 300IU Gonal F + Synarel am and pm
Day 13: Trigger with Ovidrel

Hubby doesn't escape either - he is having a TESA in rooms with a local anaesthetic Day 15 (egg retreival day) and then onto ICSI.

At the beginning I was scared about ER but i'm not anymore. Hubby has been giving me my nightly injections so I haven't had to worry about that. I have been reading a lot, looking at discussion boards and I have found that everyone I have seen on the discussion boards are so helpful.. It's like they know just how important this is to each other. I am very lucky to be able to have had children naturally (it is a lot more romantic) BUT when you have to work for it the way you do going through this process........then it takes a special kind of someone. It's nice to know that I can come here, find out information from people who have been through it and share my experience.

I am a bit worried about the Ovidrel shot but as with everything else I guess I will learn as we go along.
