Sharing the news

Post by Addy »

How did you tell family and friends that you were expecting? I'm looking for fun and creative ways to tell my family.

I was thinking of ordering some personalized m&m's in red, white and blue (since I should be 13 weeks the 4th of July weekend) with sayings like 'boy or girl', #1 grandpa/grandma, and a picture of a pacifier. I figure this is something they can share with their friends after they notice the messages on the candies.

That's a cute idea! Most of our family knew about the IVF, so it was more of an "it worked!!!" moment. For DH's grandparents we got them congratulations cards, taped the US pics on the inside and just wrote "you're going to be great-grandparents!". Nothing too big and exciting. Sometimes I wish I had the chance to be cuter, but sharing the IVF with everyone took that away. Congrats on your pregnancy and I hope however you decide, that everyone loves it!

I agree . . . everyone knew we were doing IVF and really wanted to know the results . . . we were thinking of doing a surprise with the baby's sex . . . I have a friend who had a cake made with pink frosting in the middle so when they cut it open, everyone was surprised~even my friend! :D

My parents knew right away since she was in on the IVF - she was on pins and needles waiting for the call on beta day. Other family, we just told. Even at 12 weeks, I was still paranoid that something bad would happen so we were pretty sedate when telling others.

Our gender announcement was also just telephone calls.

We're having fun with it now... Having family members guess her birthday, contribute to her time capsule and what not.

I'm such a bad secret keeper

I actually told EVERYONE about the IVF for our first round. I was super nervous and just needed to talk about it. After our loss and our subsequent failed cycles, I kept the IVF a secret (everyone knew we were still doing the IVF, but I kept hush about what part of the cycle we were in). I POAS like crazy and told my mom the day I got a faint BFP. My in-laws knew on beta day (DH wanted to wait for the beta). Our siblings knew after we saw the heartbeats at 6.5weeks.

Everyone knows now! Around 14 weeks I was starting to feel really self-conscious about being 'fat' vs 'pregnant' (that awkward stage where you are bigger but not pregnant-looking yet) --- so I walked around telling everyone I met that I was pregnant!
8 IVF+6 FET=6 BFN+8 BFP =

-mc 5wk (2.12)
-no HB at 18w (10.12)
-BO (4.13)-
-mc 6wk (9.13)

last attempt - donor sperm - baby girl born healthy July 2014

DH didn't want me to tell anyone we were doing ivf in case it was going to take a few tries. So no one knows, except my dentist lol. I had to tell them because they wanted to do x-rays and the dental hygienist was so excited for us. I was only 6 weeks at the time and she asked how long I knew I was pregnant, I thought she would think I was crazy if I said since day 5 :) so I just said only a week.
