Luveris?

Post by WannabeMommy82 »

Has anyone out there been on Luveris? I am currently taking it with my Gonal-f. This is our 2nd IVF cycle; the first time we just used Gonal-f on it's own. Apparently the Luveris is supposed to help slow down the growth of your big follicles, and help the smaller follicles increase in size to match up with the big ones. So far, though, I have taken 2 injections of it, and all of my follicles seem to be getting smaller, not bigger! Has anyone been on this drug before? Does it take a few days before it kicks in and does what it's supposed to? I don't go for my next ultrasound until 2 days from now, so I'm anxious to know how my follicles are growing.

Luveris is LH. LH does not shrink follicles in the presence of FSH.

In natural cycles, the pituitary releases LH along with FSH. Both work on the follicles. Many FSH products contain some LH, but Gonal F does not, so many REs supplement it with LH (Luveris). It's common.

Large follicles, those above about 14mm or so, can be grown further with LH alone. Small follicles need FSH. I'm not sure what LH does for small follicles, if anything. I doubt it shrinks them or slows them. You might ask your RE about this, but it's pretty obvious he must be among those that favor LH.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

Thanks Ghost. Unfortunately, because I live 6 hours out-of-town from where my IVF clinic is, they do my monitoring at another clinic which is closer to where I live. Which is great for me for traveling purposes ... but this clinic is not an IVF clinic, only IUI, and the day-to-day stuff is done by nurses. Who are great in many respects, but often not when I have specific questions. Like my question about Luveris. :( I don't actually see my doctor until it's time for my egg retrieval! I'm concerned because my last IVF (which was also my first), I was only on Gonal-f and Lupron, and I only produced 7 follicles, 5 eggs, and only 4 of those were mature. 2 made it to Day-5 blastocysts for my transfer, but needless to say, it didn't work, and we had none to freeze for future tries. My doctor was surprised at how my ovaries had responded (or hadn't, I guess) to the drugs, since I am only 28 years old. I guess he figured it would be much better. That is why he added the Luveris to my next cycle; he said it would increase the quality and size of my eggs. But although I have many follicles this time around, only a few are of decent size, and the rest are just little guys, straggling behind. He said he planned on retrieving 12-16 eggs ... and as of yesterday, I only have 4 that were decent. I'm hoping & praying by the next time I go for my monitoring (tomorrow) things have changed & I have a lot of nice, big follies to work with. I'm only on Day 8 right now, so I guess there's still time! :|
