Low Blood Pressure at 22 Weeks Pregnant?

Post by Linda Albert »

Questioned by Gari:

Low Blood Pressure, 22 Weeks Pregnant?

I have gotten my blood pressure taken 4 times now since becoming pregnant, and each time I get it done, it gets a little lower. In the booklet that my doctor gave me, it says that the ideal Blood Pressure for

Pregnant women is 120/80. However, the one today that I got was 115/59. The last number (diastolic) is the one that seems to be way off. What does this mean when only that number is off? Is there

anything I can do to try and raise it? I know that at any given time it can change drastically, but I mean - I've had 4 readings now since 12 weeks pregnant, and they just are continuing to drop.

Mine has been 90/52 (normally 110/70) for over a month and they said it's low but they also said it's better to be low than high. I'm seeing an MFM and she's not concerned at all about my BP. My Mom suffers from low blood pressure and her doctor advices her to eat salty foods.

I'm not as far along as you, but at my 10 week ultrasound, my blood pressure was 92/56. They were not one bit concerned. :D

They're only concerned if your low bp causes you symptoms (which is rare).

Some women suffer from low blood pressure during pregnancy - especially during the first 24 weeks.Low blood pressure is known as hypotension is usually not observed in the second trimester. Hypotension often causes pregnant women to feel dizzy and three common causes of low blood pressure during pregnancy.

1) The first reason for low blood pressure during pregnancy lies within the circulation. Because the child is depending on you for adequate blood supply, blood vessels, increase rapidly meet the needs of the child.

2) Another cause of low blood pressure during pregnancy, the growing uterus puts pressure on the aorta and vena cava.

3) Another reason for the low pressure during pregnancy increases rapidly sitting, kneeling or squatting position. Blood pressure drops when you rise quickly and the blood leaves the brain due to gravity. You can avoid this problem grows slowly from a sitting or lying position.
