Beta confusion after ivf HELP!

Post by terry95hawthorne »

Hi I am new here. My wife and I have tried IVF before and she had a missed misscarry at 8 weeks 5 days found at 13 weeks. Now when are trying again using our frozen embryos. 7 days after the transfer of 2 8cell ballistic embryos we took hpt and got very faint bfp. Took 4 more the next 4 days. The first 2 got darker then the 3rd one was very faint again. the fourth started to slightly darken again. 11dpt had beta checked. It was only 28.5 which was very low. Night before beta wife woke up with some bleeding, next morning still bleeding. Bleeding stopped after being up a few hours. Beta checked at 13dpt and had only went up to 29.6. They said more than likely it was a biochemical pregnancy and would not make it. But as long as the beta was rising they would keep checking it. So today we had it checked again at 15dpt and it went to 66.9. They said the levels rose well but they were still concerned this would be a bad pregnancy. We check again on monday 18dpt. So my question is what could have caused this and is there really a chance we could still have a healthy baby.

As long as your doctor is still checking the betas and not telling your wife to stop medications, there is still a chance. I've seen cases where the situation looked grim and then went on to improve and result in a healthy baby and I've also seen it go the other way. If your doctor didn't think you had a chance, they'd tell you to stop medication.

A chemical pregnancy is one that arrests after implantation. Usually, it is believed that there was simply something wrong with the genetics of the embryo. Fortunately, many women go on to have successful pregnancies after chemical pregnancies.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunatly the doctor actually told her taking the medications was up to her now. They didnt care if she stopped or continued on it. Headed for the next beta now.

Well after a couple weeks of ups and downs we found out it was ectopic. She had shots of methatrexate. Unfortunatly beta didnt drop fast enough with shots and tube ruptured. Last night went to er they did surgery to remove the tube and ended up removing both tubes. They said there was lots of scar tissue in there around the tubes and in the pelvis. They removed some of the scar tissue as well. They told us it should actually increase our chances of ivf being successful next time.

Thanks for updating. I wondered how you were doing. I'm sorry to hear that you had such a traumatic loss.

I too have no tubes. Not like a little tube missing but nada, zip, zero tubes. I had two big ectopic ruptures and had to have them removed. The good news is that you never have to worry about ectopic pregnancies again. Knowing that ectopic wasn't a possibility for me made things a little better.

Best wishes for a great outcome on your next attempt! Do you have frozen embryos or are you going to do another fresh cycle?

We have 3 frozen embryos left. First attempt we put 2 back and had a missed miscarry. 2nd attempt was the ectopic we had put 2 back. Before ivf we had 1 ectopic on our own. Now they removed both tubes and we are gonna put all 3 frozen back for our next attempt. Hopefully around march or april.
