ghost - expired drugs

Post by leorira11 »

I have a syringe of Orgalutran (Ganirelix) that expired 1/12 -- can I still use it? I would hate to see it go to waste...

I bought it with my last fresh cycle (in Feb 2011) and it's been stored in a dark, room-temperature place.

Thanks!

The official answer is no, you should not use expired medications. They are considered effective right up until the moment they expire, after which they are considered unusable.

But it's better to ask your clinic.
Avoid IVF and surrogacy in Ukraine. Ukrainian centers pay shills to post here under numerous sock accounts pretending to be patients in Ukraine. Centers using such deceptive advertising cannot be trusted and should be avoided.

thanks-

I have enough of the new batch - but I'd hate to waste this (especially since it cost me $50!)

I'll ask my doctor if it's okay

Leorira, my doctor told me that the medications are still good for a few months afte the expiration dates. The pharmacies are just not allowed to sell them at that point. Now, if they get too old then the doctor told us they lose their potency and don't ahve the desired effect. 3 months may be on the border so definitely ask your doctor (our medication expired durring the cycle so the doctor was ok with it)...

My doctors started me on expired drugs (free as part of the study I did). They said they were good for 6 months after expiration. They did switch me when new drugs came in though. This was menopur and bravelle.
