Puregon + Menopur GHOST

Hello Ladies and Ghost,

I've been away for a while but im back, i guess i cant go on in this journey without these boards and the ladies here....

so, my RE has prescribed me puregon and menopur together (everyday) for my new ivf cycle.
im 30 years old and i have no issues (only male factor), i have lots of follicules and my FSH is normal, so i am wondering why did my RE wants to use menopur with the puregon, why puregon is not enough??
through all my previous cycles i always used only puregon for stimulation and i always had lots of good eggs and embryos (but always a BFN)

Ghost do u have any idea about the "puregon + menopur" protocol? and why using both of them?

i know that the difference between the two is that menopur contains FSH AND LH, can u please explain to me in which cases do they use only FSH (puregon) for stimulation and in which cases they uses FSH + LH (menopur) ???

Ps: I have PCO, is it wise to use a medication with LH such the menopur???

Hi Fruit!

Puregon contains FSH only. Yes, you are correct that Menopur contains FSH, LH, and hCG. The hCG and LH give it a little bit of "LH activity", mostly from the hCG. hCG and LH do almost exactly the same things.

Using the two products allows your RE to adjust your LH exposure by adjusting the relative doses of each product.

One theory is that LH promotes estradiol production and therefore reduces progesterone exposure (LH and hCG promote conversion of progesterone into estradiol in the follicles). Too much early progesterone exposure has been associated with reduced chance of pregnancy.

I don't know why a clinic would use only Puregon, but I don't doubt there are some that do.

In a natural cycle, FSH and LH are always provided together from the pituitary.

I've done cycles on only Puregon and cycles on only Menopur - and gotten pregnant from both kinds. (This pregnancy is from a Puregon only cycle -- and I didn't see much of a difference in results between the two types. I actually asked my doctor for the just Puregon, because I find the pen-injections much easier than having to reconsitute like the Menopur)

Hi, I actually got pregnant on puragon only. I miscarried at 9 weeks but it happened. I had puragon the second d time and didnt and I had menopur only this time - much better quality embryo but no pregnancy.
