Hi, A new year has spurred me to be brave & post a message on this site I have just found. Having done some research it looks like IUI may be an option for my husband & I (we have failed to get pregant in the normal way) - but can anyone tell me if this can be done under any type of anaesthetic? Our problem is that I suffer from psychogenic vaginismus, so I wouldn't be able to undergo the treatment without it?
Hi Kirsten, congratulations on being brave, you won't regret. I remember I read the messages for 2 months before plucking up the courage to write something. I'm so glad I did. The help and support was incredible and got us through IUI and two ICSI treatments resulting in a wonderful bouncing baby boy 10 mths ago. I'm afraid I can't answer your question but I suggest writing down all your questions before you have your first consultation just so you don't forget anything. Make sure they are 100 % sure IUI is for you. My specialist was going to put me through 6 before trying IVF but thankfully after the first failed he had the common sense to realise I wasn't getting any younger (I was 35) and put me straight through to ICSI. Good luck and keep posting with all your worries and questions. wendy
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I haven't got round to booking an appointment yet, firstly there seem so many clinics to choose from and secondly I am just really nervous about it all. But I have spent today trawling the internet & now have lots of info to make a decision. Do you have any advice/experience on clinics in London?
Hi Kirsten
Welcome to the site and taking the plunge! IUI is vey simple and I'm sure your clinic will try and help in any way posible to make the procedure less stressful. I'm in CRM clinic in London which has been great but there are a number of very good ones in London. I agree with Wendy make sure you have a list of questions and don't leave until your completely happy.
Hope things go well let us know how you get on.
Big hugs
Aly
