Losing numbers fast. Does time increase survival rate?

My wife and I are healthy with no fertility problems. We are doing IVF for gender selection. My wife went through egg retrieval on Friday and they were fertilized that night. We were so lucky to have 34 eggs extracted, but we lose more and more each. Some did not fertalize, some didn't survive transfer, and others just aren't growing very well. As of this morning, we are down to 12 and we are both very worried. The doctor says he is confident, but of course he would say that. Neither of us can sleep. We have spent every dollar we have on this process. We are both very afraid. Does the probability of survival increase as time goes on? Can expect the numbers to keep going down? Pretty typical. Human reproduction is inefficient and there are significant losses, on average, at each step. Sounds like you are not transferring on day 3, but proceeding to blastocyst. You will very probably have fewer than 12 good embryos on day 5 (Wednesday), perhaps 5 to 10, but it varies a lot.

Your concern suggests you will make fine parents. But your experience is better than average in terms of embryo number, and not really unusual in terms of the reduction in numbers along the way. I cannot predict your chances, but they look at least average based on what you posted. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
