For Dawn V

Post by SQUEW »

Hi Dawn

Saw your post on JCB and that you had read the Barts v Lister post, I feel awful now and I want to stop you worrying!.

I used to live in Norfolk when I had my first attempt, and that is why I was going to Barts probably the same as you.
This was in 1996, so I am sure things have changed a lot since then!! My egg collection was painful, and I prefered to have a general, but I am a wimp and also at the time I had a very large hydrosalphynix on my left tube which I believe probably caused this. I have since had this operated on at the Lister.
The big plus for you is that unless things have changed in Norwich you can have all your scans etc done locally(I was having to go to Lister daily for a week as I was coasted due to OHSS!!) This puts a lot less stress on you and your partner!
What you must remember is that we are all so different and what works for one person wont for another, and we all have different case histories etc.
Anyway I hope this makes you feel a little better? Hopefully we will both get big fat +ives!

Hi Sue

Thanks for your post. Please don't feel bad, I am such a wimp and have been begging for a general but they won't give it to me!! So I'm hoping for an extra large dose of the sedative!
Did you go to the clinic in Princes Street? I agree Barts is very 1950's!! although they are now opening a brand new ivf unit.
I went for my baseline scan today and the nurse went through the drugs with me then she said I couldn't use a autoinjecter pen!!! No chance of me visibly putting a needle in my leg so luckily they have changed the drugs and I have a pen so first jab tonight.
What stage are you at the moment?
Wishing you lots of luck
Dawn

Hi Dawn

Glad you are doing ok, yes it was the clinic in Princess street. I used to see a lady called Liz Latartche(or something like that!). I have had the needles both times but luckily my other half has managed to do this most of the time. I cycled in sept and there was a shortage of supracur(spelt wrong!) in the sniffing form so I had to inject that too!!, when they put me on the stimulating drug I was having an injection of each in either leg!! Ouch! I actually manged to do it myself and never though I would but i guess you get so desperate you overcome your fears!

Word of advice re when you go to Barts, try to drive and get your hubby to collect the car and pick you up from the door after, dont try to go by tube/train. The sedative made me sick, and can recommend a old ice cream container/tupperware as a suitable 'friend' in the car!!

I am having a natural frozen embryo transfer so just waiting for af to arrive(should be tomorrow) then I need a scan day 3-5 another day 10 and use an ovulation kit. Once this happens they get the little guys out of the freezer and if they make it ok pop them back in! Dead easy this time(!?) Never had FET before, but at the mo am feeling fairly chilled out, and if it doesnt work I will just keep going until it does(+ve thoughts)

Is this your first cycle? If it is and you have been feeling shitty with the dowregging(I felt awful) the good news is that once you start stimuating drugs you will feel loads better, I felt great!

Anyway hope your jabs are going ok! :)

Hi Sue

I was a very brave girl with my first jab!!! My friend who's a vet nurse watched me draw up the drugs as I was a bit worried about air bubbles!!
It didn't hurt at all when it went in just stung a little after about 5mins. I'm actually quite excited about doing it tonight!! Hmm perhaps I need to get a life?!
I was going to go to Barts on the train so will maybe drive now - can you still get to Barts with the new congestion thingy in London?
I've seen Liz but she is mainly based in London now, I really like her but the other nurses are temperamental at times!!!
This is my first tmt and I'm feeling quite chilled out about it at the moment which worries me as I'm normally a real worrier. I was fine on the Synarel too just getting sweats when I wake up in the morning (but that could be my 2 huge cats lying on me in bed)!
When will you be having your frosties popped back in? I really hope this is the one for you.

oops must remember to finish posting before hitting submit!

Hi Ang

Yep have got my autoinjecter - I nearly cried when the nurse said I would have to inject myself!!
Have got scans Mon, Weds & Fri next week with ec hopefully the 19th if all goes well. Had 4 follicles on each side yesterday so hopefully they'll grow lots of nice eggs!
How are you feeling?

hello girls

sorry to butt in, but I just wanted to wish you both lots of luck with your tmt. I cycled in Sept with Sue and I was one of the lucky ones, but I'm always watching and keeping everything crossed for my old SCBs!!!

Dawn, you'll be fine. If you manage to keep everything in perspective and not get too bogged down with it all, you'll breeze through. On the subject of sedation - I had local anaesthetic rather than a general, but I had so much I was pretty much out of it! It was great - I don't remember a thing. I loved my EC day (both times), I felt like I was pissed the whole day - which is great when you've not had a drink for so long!

I think going by car is a much better idea, especially not using PT in London! I felt a bit sick too afterwards and took a sick carton from the hospital home just in case!

Keeping everything crossed for you both.

lots of love
