Baby asprin

Post by Wendy »

Hiya, I've read a few messages questioning about baby asprin and thought I'd see if anyone else has any theories as well as me.
My first icsi in jan 03 I had never heard of low dose or baby asprin, but thanks to this site on my second icsi I decided to take it. I didn't ask my doc (I'm in France so hes probably never heard of it) I just started taking it (75mg per day) about a month before the treatment cycle started and throughout the 2ww. I got pregnant and now have gorgeous baby boy. I also drank 3 litres water a day throughout and took vitamin supps inc calcium, folic acid, vitamin B complex, vit D, magnesium; DH took same plus vit C, vit E, zinc. I am convinced that the baby asprin and water intake did the trick and am doing the same on my next treatment starting next week. It certainly didn't do me any harm anyway.
The 75mg dose is the dose used to thin the blood for people with circulation problems. It supposedly helps the embryo embed as blood supply is improved. I suppose it would be sensible to ask your doctor first. Check out the info on the internet - theres loads about it.
Anyone else got any ideas ?
love to all Wendy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx :D

Hi Wendy,

What a great post!!

I would also like to say I had my first ICSI cycle and I was advised by my clinic to take baby aspirin and drink 2 litres of water per day. I did what I was asked to do and I am pregnant (38wks today) so I am sure there must be something good about it.

Hi Ang,

Alot of clinics don't recommend it but it does help I am sure, well I guess I would say that with the tmt working for me. The thing is if you don't ask you don't get, so I would def ask. What Wendy says about it helping the embryo's to implant the clinic also told me this.
Good luck with your tmt, lets hope all your dreams and wishes come true.

I was also told to take baby aspirin (and still am), as well as drinking at least 2 litres of water a day, and I am now over 28 weeks pg - so I am a big fan!

see us who have taken baby aspirin seem to be getting a positive result, I don't know 100% if this helped me achieve my positive but I am sure it went in favour of it.

I didn't take it on my first tmt and it failed, so on my second tmt I asked the consultant who said there was no evidence that this improved the chances but if I wanted to take it then to take one a day after ET. So I did and guess what.....I'm now 20 weeks pg!

Hi Gem,

If I can remember I started mine from EC, you would get them from any chemist just say you want 75mg of baby aspirin and they will sort it, just make sure you drink your 2 litres of water per day as well, also I was advised by my clinic when I had ET not to have a bath just to shower so I would do that as well.

Aspirin hey

Well I took it on attempt 3 and no go but on 4 took it and pg - but sadly Oliver died at 20 weeks.
This time I asked my Clinical Director who had returned from Maternity leave and she said her early indications were that people taking it were less successful than those not taking it and not to take it as my bloods were all normal.
Deep breath and I did not take it this time as did not want to keep getting in to the cylcle of extra drugs. I am pg - 9 weeks so who knows.
There is no evidence to say it does harm they think - if you take it - take it as soon as you are having ET and carry on - some for 30 weeks and some stop at 12.
Good luck

what a response !

Great, thank you for so many of you posting such positive stories, it certainly seems like theres something to go on, despite what the experts say - they don't tell you to keep away from the microwave and computer, to stay in bed with your legs in the air, dance naked around the garden in wellies at midnight with a full moon - but hell if it works - who cares - I stuck to them all religiously last time and it worked (apart from the naked, welly thing, but I was going to the next time)
I started taking the 75mg asprin about a month before trtmt started but I believe it starts working straight away as they give it people having heart attacks to thin the blood. You get it from the chemist or on line.
I have read you shouldn't take it after 20wks of pregnancy, so I took it for the first 12wks then slowly reduced it to nothing over the next 4wks, it did no harm to baby or me. After all taking regular over counter medicines for headaches etc is supposedly ok whilst pregnant and this is much lower in doseage. I'm now taking it daily and drinking my 2 l water (to be increased to 3 l on 2ww) and just waiting for my period to start before down regging.

On a different note - has anyone been prescribed 1 mega injection to down reg ? I've just got 1 injection on day 1 of period then nothing till they give me the all clear to start on gonal f ??

Also has anyone any theories on gonal f vs puregon and others. My first go I had puregon and it failed, second time was gonal f and it worked - i've insisted on gonal f again - dr insists they are the same, but it seemed to me there were far more positives on gonal f last year on this site.

Also how do I get the smileys into my post - I've tried dragging them ??
Sorry to wibble on, I'm so excited and nervous to be back here again. I'm not sure I belong as I feel guilty, because I already have what everyone wants and I feel guilty for being greedy and wanting another baby. But I also feel I can give others support from my experiences and want to give people hope too.

Love and hugs to all of you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxWendy xxxxx

Hi Wendy
Quick question - I'm on day 2 of injections. Should I be drinking the 2litres of water now - I thought this began on the 2ww?

Michelle I was advised to start drinking the 2 litres of water from when I started my tmt.
