Hi my name is Mel and I have been advised by my doctor that IVF is the next step for my husband and I to take. I have been taking Clomid which did get my periods going, but unfortunately did not result in a pregnancy.
I would be grateful for any advice as to the procedure itself and over how long each treatment takes. Although I have read absolutely loads there seems to be conflicting reports about when certain stages are started.
Welcome to the site - I hope you find it as helpful as I have over the years.
Treatment length vaires dependant on which protocol you will be given, short (which last approximately 2 weeks from 1st drugs to et - embryo transfer) or long (which can be up to 2 months from acceptance by clinic of cycle to et).
Length also is dependant on how you respond to the drugs and also whether your clinic has 'planned' activities (e.g some NHS ones only do et's on Mon-Fri).
If you do a search on 'typical cycle' by me, you should find a thread which explains the long cycle. The short cycle follows the same format from starting the stimulation drugs stage and the down-regging is done at the same time instead of before.
This is only brief, and specific questions ask away and I'm sure someone will answer.
I have had 2 cycles of IVF (1 failed, 1 m/c) and they took 9 weeks from my period to test date. This should give you a rough idea of timings, started sniffing day 21 of cycle - continued for 2 weeks then started injecting for 2 weeks (these can both vary depending on your response to the drugs), had egg collection and then transfer 3 days later (they usually transfer 2 or 3 days after collection), then the worst part of all.... the dreaded 2 week wait!
I hope this helps. But if you have any specific question just ask.
I am sure that Fiona answered what you needed to know it all depends how you respond to drugs etc.... My ICSI tmt lasted about 6 weeks but everyone is different. If you do have any questions that you need to ask fire away one of us are always able to help.
