I have already told Nikola on the phone this but thought I would share it. As most you you know I was pg until 20 week scan last year and after 12 weeks had relaxed a bit and started buying a few bits. Just before the 20 week scan - ie the day before we had seen a lovely cot and at a good price so bought it. I was also taken with the Humphrey stuff in MCAre so ordered some curtains and lamp as couldn't buy the blooming things in store. Well they duly arrived the day after Oliver was born. After much umming and ahhing we kept them. Well we had also painted the nursery - or started to on one wall -yellow. I am getting there honest!
To cut a long story short I wanted to start tracking the Humphrey stuff again as DH went the whole hog and finished off the nursery at xmas as it looked silly with one yellow wall. MCARE had the stuff on sale but when I tried to get any told me it had sold out on the internet and most stores as it was being discontinued and replaced with a new HUMPHREY range. I particularly wanted the wall frieze in yellow as this is the colour of the nursery so asked what the new range is like - WAIT FOR IT!!!!
She told me it was lilac as "lilac is the new yellow" - I suggested in much fruiter language that lilac is not the new sodding yellow when you have painted the nursery yellow and have the curtains etc and has she ever for instance seen a boy looking good in lilac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For goodness sake I ask you - does anyone else think I am mad or are you all putting little boys in lilac - incidentally I love this colour but not when everything is flaming YELLOW

Although my sister inlaw did her nursery in Lilac and pale green, I thought by doing this she knew that she was having a girl...But she had a BOY..WHOOPS (not laughting really) but she left it all the same, ( I have to say I dont really care for her anyway) cant say I've ever seen a boy in lilac, but since you are having two babies maybe your get one of each, how would you work that one in the nursey one end for Boy and one end for Girl.....mind boggles
Would have loved to have been there when you told her in the shop, but then again my baby has ears that hear now so maybe not.
I've banned everyone a work from swearing just incase the babys hears it, have been checking the net for ear muffs that fit over bump, no such luck yet!!!!!
If I come across any of the design I will let you know.

Hi Trace,
The mothercare store by me as changed the design but its not lilac at all, well not that I have noticed. To be honest I wouldn't want to go for lilac I would be lemons I have gone for creams and browns netural colours but at the end of the day you wasn't to know they was going to change. I will have to have a look when I am next in MC and let you know.

Anyway, I agree that lilac is the new yellow is b****x (by the way Wibbs, your post made me think I'd better curb my own language - after having a good giggle reading it). So no you are not mad unless I am too.
Any shade of Purple is my favorite colour but boys would look rather strange in lilac methinks and I think old favourites of white/cream/yellow and light green are best for either sex before knowing for sure. Our study is already (un-intentionally) Winnie the Pooh yellow and so we're not re-decorating, just adding a border etc. I'm not even going for nursery curtains - I have some bright yellow/red checked material which I'm making curtains and things out of - we've yet to chose bedding, but as we're going down the grobag route, its going to be no big deal for it matching (probably get cream).
Have you tried e-bay to see if you can get the original Humphrey stuff? Or you could try plain co-ordinates although I know this won't feel as good if you have your heart on one particular design.

Gosh I had no idea what a lot of treatment you have had. You must be such a strong person. I so take my hat off to you.
I had decided to paint our nursary a purple colour (not lilac) I didn't know that it was the new yellow. I just knew that I didn't want yellow. With purple you can add pinks or blues depending on what you have but I am not so sure now. Oh decisions decisions.

Aargh, lilac is not and never will be yellow. I wouldn't dream of dressing Daniel in lilac. We had a lilacy- coloured spare room and repainted it lime green once we knew that one of our bubbas was a boy.

Always get us going doesn't it - don't get me wrong I like the colour and purple not when we have decided on yellow as more neutral to go with creams etc of blue.
Anyway now have most of it via various stores across the country - just the coverlets if anyone sees them and will look on ebay - don't want to get too much - only 9 weeks today!!!

Erm, sorry to be thick, but what the chuff is a coverlet? Is that like a posh way of saying cover/blanket?
Could somebody decide what colour I should do my nursery, I've got the whole house to redecorate and I'm struggling for inspiration! The only thing I know I want is some Paddington Bear bits and pieces (perhaps a coverlet, if I knew what one was!)
Also if anyone has any thoughts on what colour to do the downstairs loo and the guest room (I was thinking lilac as its seems to be 'the' colour!) and my kitchen......do let me know!

We've done our nursery out in bright yellow, with blue cupboard doors (it's tough if it's a girl as I'm not repainting it!!). I agree that lilac for a boy is a bit daft.
Mothercare does have some naff colours - I chose cream for the bedding, which is very boring, but neutral. Sure the baby won't know any different or care in any way.

Ours is yellow but a friend has twins and has one of each - she has lots of yellow downstairs but did the oatmeal thing upstairs and painted stars on the ceiling etc - the curtains are red checks - it looks fab and very upmarket - just your thing Nik -
Also a sensible idea - you could paint cream or something similar like that and then get a picture of Paddington and project it on the wall and paint around it - this is what a friend did with magic roundabout - great if you are artistic but she said dead simple - like me!!!!
Also a coverlet - just a very good way of paying extra for a quilt like thing - my mum is a sucker for these - I am all for those blankets in different colours that come cheap!

Well I don't know if I am having a boy or girl, this is why I went for creams!! I have done the nursery in the Mama And Papa range Barnaby Bear and I know that this will suit boy or girl. I opted for light brown carpet as well. Its all exciting, theres not a day that goes by that I don't go in the nursery and have a look, and I opted for pine cot and also pine cupboards.

All my halls, stairs, landing are all yellow, so I thought I'd try another colour. I like the idea of cream with paddington on the wall - not sure I'm artistic enough - I suppose I could have a go!
I'm turning my office into a grown-ups living room which will have no toys, just a room to go and relax in. I'm thinking of having a brown comfy leather sofa with creams/browns in there.
The guest room, I'm quite taken with lilac now we've been talking about it so much! And the downstairs loo is either going to be a shade of green or blue - relaxing colours for if you're constipated and need to spend a lot of time in there. I've put shelves in the loo with lots of books and magazines - so lots of reading material......just in case!
Bought loads of Home magazines at the weekend to get some inspiration. I also bought Mother & Baby which had some good articles about prams. We are still undecided on what we need. We have a friend who has twins and they have FIVE different pram/buggy combinations!

Yeah I'm still with you all, I can't believe it really when I go to my midwife appointment on Friday she won't believe it because she said that a pound to a penny when I went for my hospital appointment she thought they may of given me a date to induce me but surprise I am still waiting
