A question about EC

Post by ANGELA »

Hi girls,
As some of you will know i'm having ICSI this year sometime and am worried about the egg collection i have already disscussed this with my doc told him i was terrified off being sedated and drugged up and he said i could just have local anesthetic but this is still worrying me a little i was wondering if any of you have had EC without any drugs at all ??

Hi Ang,

To be honest EC isn't as bad as some people say, my clinic just gave me a little bit of sedation but to be honest I still felt it when they pierced the follicles to get the eggs out. You will be fine honestly, just think that what ever they are doing, its just giving you the best possible chance of having your own baby.

hihi
i had mild sedation for the first 3 treatments and the last time
i went to a different clinic and had a general, to be honest
i realy had no prob with either way.
i would be surprised if they did ec without anything, as they
need u to be very still when they aspirate the follicle, and if
u did not have any sedation i think u would feel the prick
as they aspriate which would
makes u move your bottom back.......
hope this helps

Hi Angela

On both occasions EC is my favourite day of ivf! Sad I know. I had lorazapam the night before and on the morning, which basically chills you out (you feel a bit pissed). Then I had local anaesthetic which they top up if you feel you are in pain - I have to say I didn't feel anything and told them to keep me topped up. The drugs I had is the same as the date rape drug (can't remember the name - no pun intended!) so afterwards I don't remember anything. Apparently I spent the whole time wittering on about when I could eat something and how hungry I was - how embarrassing!!

As for hospitals not offering sedation, I was told that St James' in Leeds didn't offer sedation, which is why I didn't go there!!

I really wouldn't worry about it too much. By the time you get to EC you've had such a rollercoaster of adventure, you just want to find out if its worked and how many eggs you have managed to collect (hopefully lots of fat juicy ones!)

You'll be fine.
