a cold - potenial problems?

Post by Juliana »

Hi everyone,
I just thought i was getting settled down in my wait and not writing all the time with only worries like the panicky person i seem to have become when this morning i woke up with a new worry. I seem to have a cold, does not feel so bad as to merit calling it a flu but i am worried it could influence the development of the baby(s), it is still so early in the pregnancy (will be 6 weeks tomorrow). Any of you have any knowledge or experience with this? I guess the sore throat is not a problem and the other symptoms but i do have a little bit of fever (37.2) that worries me, or is temperature higher when pg?

Touch wood I have not had this but a friend of mine had one after the other for the entire 9 months - cold sores, colds, sore throats the whole monty and fevers. It won't hurt baby but will make you more tired as your body has to work more - just make sure you rest and drink plenty of fluids to keep the temp down.
Anything you need to take consult the doc - you can take paracetamol though

Tracey is right (for once!) - you seriously need to keep up your intake of fluids to stop you dehydrating. also be careful about over the counter cold rememdies -things we take without thinking eg. throat pastels like Strepsils etc - some are not safe to take in pregnancy. You should go and see the pharmacist. One of my best friends is a pharmacist and he told me about the throat pastels.

Try good old hot honey and lemon and paracetomol if things get v.bad.

Hope you feel better soon.

ps at least it will take your mind of this wretched wait for your scan!!

Hi
I had cold and a bad cough for nearly 2 weeks while waiting for my scan. I took hot water and honey drinks and paracetomol, make sure you get plenty of rest and keep warm. It didn't do me any harm and I am now 17 weeks.

Take care

thanks for the good advice, i stayed in bed for a while and just drank liquids, did not take anything as i figured it was not worth the risk. it was not really a very bad cold, just one gets so paranoid after all the efforts to get this far! Still i am feeling more and more hopeful that things may be going well. My scan is a week from today!!! (in week 7+)
