IVF TREATMENT

Post by svivesrotger »

Hello All,
I just had both my fellopian tubes removed and will need to go through IVF in order to have a baby. I am 37 years old and does not much about it. If you have been in the same situation, please would you mind telling me about your experience, has IVF been successful? Where did you have it done? Will appreciate any response. Many thanks. Hi Sandrine, sorry to hear that you've joined this large club of ours. You might try reading all the stuff on the left of the screen, plus look for private clinics on the internet and read their information. There's a lot out there though. Your doctor's office should have some leaflets available too. Try general medical websites too for more general info on the subject. Good for getting your head around all the different terms (there's also a glossary on the left to help with all the different terminology). You might want to focus on reading the General Forum board as that's where people who are trying and undergoing treatment tend to post. There is lots of discussion about drugs, clinics, questions etc etc.

In answer to your Q. I'm now 39.11 and had one round of IVF in mid. 2001 because my tubes were 100% unusable, and we were successful. I used two major drugs, an inhaled medication called Synerela to stop my natural cycle (so that the clinic could replace it with a new timetable which was controllable) and then Puregon which is self- injected (completely painless, I promise). There are lots of scans to check how the uterus and follicles look etc. The follicles are collected (EC), eggs hopefully collected from each and then a few days later, after a few more meds, egg transfer (ET) takes place. At that stage there are yet more meds to help keep the embryos as comfortable as possible! I live out of the UK so can't help re. 'where' but used a private clinic which was referred to us by an OB.GYN. There are lots and lots of posts about clinics on the General Forum board.

Good luck
Debra.

Dear Sandrine

I also have lost both my tubes ( 1 to an ectopic and one due to hydrosalpinx infection ) We did 2 cylces of IVF - the first one after the ectopic which did not take apparently due to the hydrosalpinx. My clinic would only do another cycle with the other tube removed which we did. Don't know how it is with you but I went thru a black hole as I knew my chances of becoming a mother were over as with no tubes there is really NO hope.
Anyway, we waited 3 months did our 2nd cycle and now we are expecting for the 1st week of April! This is all just to say IVF does work and it is a wonderful thing !
Don't give up hope and you will see dreams can come true

Will be 40 when 'Fritz' arrives so even age hasn't stopped success :?

Hi Sandrine

IT does appear daunting doesn't it - I found out I had two blocked tubes and severely blocked at that! I had first IVF which was successful but ectopic! Had that tube removed and the other clipped so it would not happen again!
4th was successful but lost him at 20 weeks and 5th bingo and currently 15.6 weeks with twins. I am 37 this year
Ask anything you like
Love
Tracey
