Big Twins!!!!

Post by sharon »

Hi everyone,

I'm nearly 33 weeks pregnant with twins and I've just read Berties post about having a 'big baby'

Ever since our 20 week scan our twins have been 'bigger' than normal.
The hospital keep telling us not to worry.

At our last growth scan at 28 weeks the twins were measuring 31 weeks! and I had more fluid than normal too. I too had to have a glucose test and a more detailed scan at 31 weeks - which was all fine. The hospital just say that they are big babies!!!

Has anybody else who has had twins or are expecting twins experienced this?

The Doctor at the hospital asked if my husband and I were big babies when born - we weren't.

I know I'm probably worrying over nothing it's just you always expect twins to be smaller if anything.

Take care.

At least if they come a couple of weeks early they will be evry good weights which can only be better for them.
Good luck, helen

Hi Sharon

My two were always supposed to be the same size as singletons or slightly bigger. As it was, they were the very nice weight of 6lb2 and 6lb4 when they arrived at 39 weeks. I think that scans tend to overestimate the size from what I've heard from other people as well. But as Helen says, it was really reassuring to know that they wouldn't be too small if they put in an early appearance.

I'm sure I've said it before but it is possible to have heavy twins. My twin brothers were 8lb11 and 7lb13 at 40+1 weeks ...my poor Mum was HUGE!!!

As Jules said I wouldn't worry - after all you would be very worried if they were small! MAggie's were small and they had to go into ICU for a while!
I want mine as big as possible -within reason - at my 16/17 wk scan last week they were both coming up 4/5 days bigger. I have plenty of fluid too - or they do!
Nikola has been bigger than dates all along too - telling her she is over 28 weeks and she is saying it is impossible which we all know it is.
Take care!
Jules - your poor mum - yours were a great size - didn't one have to go into ICU or am I being stupid?
