I'm new and need some help....

Hi, just come across this website and I'm looking for people who are in the same predicament to talk to. Currently awaiting IVF at Leeds - should come to the top of the list in November. This is my first try and have no idea of what to expect. Its suddenly dawned on me that its actually going to happen and I'm very aprehensive but also excited.

Would welcome some advice

I just found this site a couple of weeks ago and am starting my IVF this month I found its really useful just to have a look through the threads as i do not know of one person in real life who has done this before and needed to see what the experience was going to be like, so I'd have a good nosey and if you have any questions just ask and someone will have experienced it.

Hi Carol,
There is loads of advice available on this site. Good luck for your ivf. It is a bit nervous when you start but you will soon be getting excited as well.
I have just done my first ivf. Unfortunately it was unsuccessful but I'm going to start another cycle soon, as I'm determined to get that positive result sooner rather than later.
As Bronagh said it may be worthwhile going through some threads ... i.e. FCB thread (February Cycle Buddies) or the March Cycle Buddy thread, as these will take you through the ins and outs (and the ups and downs) of a cycle.
Everyone has different experiences. I have found it really exciting as I have finally been actively doing something to get pregnant. This site has helped me so much as you realise you are not alone, and there is always advice available.
Basically when you start a cycle you will be prescribed a whole lot of drugs (ones you have to sniff , others you need to inject). These drugs are to control your cycle, stop you ovulating and make you produce loads of eggs/follicles. The end result is to make you produce a good number of eggs to fertilise.
And dont worry the injecting is far easier than I ever expected.

The cycle takes a good few weeks, and sometimes you wonder if you will ever get there. Even though I didn't get a positive on this first go, many people do. There's been loads of positives this month.
I may not have helped at all, sorry. But you are not alone, there are loads of us mad, hormonal women here .......

We are in the same situation but we have our pre-treatment info session tomorrow after waiting for a short time. Like you we were scared stiff at first about what would happen. This site has been very reassuring and I certainly know a lot more about what to expect through reading the information posted - I have a list of 20 questions to take with me tomorrow about things I would not have had a clue about.

If you want reading material I would recommend a book called Your Essential Infertility companion by Anna Furse at £10.99. It explains lots of things and gives you good questions about what to ask. I bought it and then found a copy in the local library so try there first! The other good info pack is the new HFEA guide to infertility that also explains everything as well as having real life stories. It also has the guide for all the UK clinics. You can order this from their website www.hfea.gov.uk for free.

We are not medical experts but have all experienced/are going through fertility treatments and first hand knowledge is so much more useful than what any DR can tell you..........

Welcome to the board. You really will get lots of support and help from everyone here. Don't worry about the procedure too much just try to be positive and stay calm. some of us are IVF veterans and we are still here to tell the tales so it's OK really.

I had my 1st attempt and it was successful for me I now have a beautiful baby boy who weighed in at 11lb 5oz and is now 7wks old.

Just wanted to say welcome to this site.I have had 2 ivf cycles-one with fresh embryos and one with frozen which unfortunately ended in a m/c.This site is the best thing that has happened to me....i never had to think anything before expressing myself on this site and the people out here are extremely helpful.Pls let me know what questions do u have and i will love to answer them.

I don't think any of us really knew what to expect when we first went through treatments so you're not alone - and you're definately not if you're on this site (I wish I'd known about here my first go)

Doctors can give you advice from a medical point of view, but the girls here can tell what it's like to actually go through it, so fire questions away when you need to!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK with your treatment - try and relax, drinks loads of water and think lots of +++++++++++'s!!!!
