midwife with pg brain and trainee nurses

Post by Juliana »

Well girls, I got to meet a midwife for the first time and i was stunned how clueless she was! After an hour and a half of an appointment that looked like something out of Monthy Python, i was happy i had been dealing with doctors so far. She started by not being able to find my file (we were just a floor up at the same hospital as the ivf clinic, but i guess it was not her fault), then she discovered it and started reading it while we were there, at some point noticing that i am pregnant with twins. She gave me a suspicious look and said - nice, ah? The look she gave us afterwards seemed to indicate that she felt we were not displaying the appropriate emotional response. and so it continued, giving me food advice (Eat healthily! many vegatables!) and for 20 minutes not being able to find the twins on the ultrasound scan because, as she cheerfully told us, she had not had much practice with twins! Honestly she did not say or do one thing which was in the least bit useful. when dp questioned why he has to repeat his blood tests just beacause they could not find the results of last time she started explaining to us that this is how things are done in the Netherlands (he is as Ducth as can be!) I was wondering if she caught pg brain from the patients or what. Finally I had to have blood test and got a trainee nurse whose hand shook so much that she could not keep the needle in and could not take enough so another one came to finish teh job. All of it no big deal but left me hoping when the time comes to give birth and if all is well what kind of idiot will i get. Anyway the babies are fine and this is the most important thing, all this is not worth moaning about, except that I promised dp last night i would make this midwife famous in the UK and further afield and hope to offer you some comic relief.
love to all,
juliana

It it was not for the fact that the twins are fine then this would all be very annoying!!! As it is they are fine and I had a right laugh - sounds like DH's ex wife for not having a battery in her brain?

How can you not find twins as you have not had much practice with them - surely if you know how to scan - 2 are easier to find than one or am I being as daft as her?

Glad you are ok

Hi Tracey,
I also thought twins are pretty easy to spot, but she really managed to move the scan equipment in such a way that nothing was visible for a while. I felt I could do it better after all the scans I've had. and yes, she does sound like your dh's ex, amazing power and speed of observation!
when's your scan, when shall I keep my fingers crossed for?

juliana

Yep lives in my village - it has 2 pubs and 2 churches and no shops - fab!!!! 300 year old cottage - well 3 knocked in to one! She is great - Irish and around 54 but looks 10 years younger - she really is very good and I don't have to go in to see her - she comes round to the house - how good is that - first met her at a wine tasting when we were both blotto!!! Those were the days
Take care

Village sounds fab - I'm soooooooooo jealous. we live in an old mining village outside Edinburgh, but in a newish house as that's what we could get quickly when we moved here. It's like bl**dy surburbia and they've just built in all the fields surrounding us :( . Desperately want an old house with a real fire, but no chance at the moment... :( :(

I'm from further north and love old villages where you can't fart without someone knowing (excuse the expression) - although of course I don't anyway. Our estate, some of the people are so far up their own bums it's unbelievable. OMG, I'm having a moan today. Help..............................

I would love to go to Edinburgh - my grandfather was a Scot - a Cameron but I have been all round the world and never to Edinburgh - done Oban and the islands though - beautifull - mull, iona etc

BEt they do fart there - just call it something nicer and think they smell better - ooops lowered the tone again
