Nuchal 0r Triple Test???

Post by Dawn V »

Hi girls

We had our 12 week scan yesterday and junior (or Eric as dh calls him/her) was bouncing around like he/she was on a trampoline and waving at us!! We saw the consultant afterwards who said everything waas fine. She then mentioned the nuchal scan and said did we want that instead of the triple test. We are having it this afternoon but I just wondered if it is as accurate as the triple test and if i should have that too?
Fingers crossed it will all be ok but it's such a worry.
we finally allowed ourselves to buy baby's first toy yesterday and a baby journal but know I'm worrying I'm tempting fate!!!
Hope your all well

Well done on the scan - don't worry - fate does not come in to it - especaily when shopping..............unfortunately if something is going to happen it has nothing to do with you buying a toy.
The nuchal is very accurate - 95% and they are trying to get more hospitals to use it for this very reason. I get mine as matter of course in my hospital due to age and ivf. They are very good and a better indicator.
Fingers crossed................. Let us know

hi dawn, great news on the scan and baby's development. it's lovely seeing the baby moving isn't it. makes it all so real.

the nuchal scan has a high accuracy rate and is really safe. if there was any cause for concern you would then be referred on to other tests . i feel it's a good starting point as it's non invasive and can tell alot.

look forward to hearing how you get on.

im so pleased dawn that the scan went well, i was advised to have
the nuchal scan done due to my age (43) and was told it was the
most accurate, the best time to have this performed is between 11-13wks
one of the web pages i looked at was www.babycentre.co.uk which gives
u info on the various test, might be worth looking at.
As for worrying, im at the in between stage, i have had my 12wk nuchal
scan and now am waiting till end of april for my 22wk scan and i worry
daily if my little one is still growing.
