I just had an unsuccessful first attempt at IVF. I was very surprised by it as both my husband and I are very healthy, all our tests were favourable and above average. My period arrived even before I did a pregnancy test. I had an ectopic last year which resulted in a tubal removal, so that's why we have decided on IVF. I was wondering if there's anyone out here who had an unsuccessful first attempt, what was the feedback you received (we have yet to go back for our consultation), and what did you do differently the second time? I have heard of acupuncture and reflexology and am a bit cynical of the treatment but willing to try it out if there are any success cases out here.
Sorry to hear about your negative....it is not easy. I got one myself yesterday.
I started off on IVF and moved to IUI and on both occasions my AF came before my negative....it really is a *****, rubbing your nose in it!
Advice I can give you is you would be very lucky for your IVF to work first time...........some even see the first cycle as a dry run, the clinic is getting to know you and your body and how you and your eggs respond to the various stages of the treatment......it is a big learning curve, from there the next treatment will be really fine tuned and even more personalised for you.
Most clinics sell their IVF treatments in a package of three for this reason and as the law of probability states if you pick heads, the more often you flip a coin, one of those times it will land on heads..........
Don't know if this is any help...........
I know it is not easy but go to your clinic and have a good old chat and you will feel better............I have found the nurses in particular to be a huge help as they are so willing to answer questions and deal with your worrries
Hi, I'm sorry about your negative - it really is a kick in the teeth when AF arrives before you can even test. It can work though - I ended up with a beautiful baby boy after our second ivf and for more proof go over to the 'other side' where all the successes are chatting about their growing tummies and all the worries that go along with that too ! Our second time around I took baby asprin (75mg) plus 2 to 3 Litres of water a day and loads of vitamin supplements - staying healthy and eating sensibly, cutting out alcohol etc are also good things to do. Then of course you get on to the things like not getting water on your tummy in the shower, not using the microwave and standing naked in the garden in your wellies howling at the moon - I've heard them all over the last few years on this site - and believe me I've done them all except the last one which I said I'd do if the second time failed - luckily it didn't. Try to stay positive and keep on this site - it really does help and you know you are not alone.

Hi,
Sorry to here about your -tve. I too have just had a -ve cycle. it was our first cycle. We were so gutted when we got the negative result. We got a good number of eggs that fertilised well, so we really though our luck was in. I still look back and can't belive it was negative - I did everything I was meant too. 3 litres of water 1 litre of milk, loads of protein, showering backwards, no caffine etc etc etc. Also speant £400.00 on acupuncture and chinese herbs.
We had our -ve rsult on March 13th, and have had to wait to see the consultant. We are going to see him on Tuesday ... not sure what he will say but I have loads of questions for him. We are lucky to have 6 frosties, so hoping to start a FET asap. Will let you know what he says.
Sorry again, and here's hoping we all get our dream come true.
