Hi All

I am new to this site and havent posted until now. My DH and I have just completed our first proper IVF cycle after 3 years of TTC. We tried for the first year without realising that I had any problems.

I discovered I had endometriosis which resulted in a laprotomy in April 2002. I continued to suffer from severe abdominal pain and back ache for almost a year before a new consultant did a a laproscopy and discovered that I had such bad adhesions and everything inside my stomach was all stuck together. I had another laprotomy in April 2003 to free up these adhesions and to check the condition of my tubes. Luckily the adhesions were freed up but one of my tubes was blocked and could not be fixed. We were told to try natuarally for 6 months and then consider IVF.

We went to start our first cycle at the beginning of this year but had to stop after the prostap injection as another cyst was found in one of my ovaries and the other ovary was stuck behind my womb. I had yet another laprotomy done to sort these probs out in Jan 2004 and were able to start the whole IVF process in March.

I was a bit negative throughout the whole cycle because I just didnt think it would happen for me. During the 2ww after ET I had AF pains for the first week and was convinced that this meant that the treatment had not worked. However I just had my blood test on Tuesday and recieved a BFP!!! :D :D :D I couldnt belive it and still cant. I cant wait for the scan on 4th May as I dont think that I will be convinced until then.

I was wondering if anyone could advise me what I can do to decrease the chances of m/c as this is my new fear now. I'm not working at the mo so I will be resting as much as poss but am still scared that my dream will be cruely snatched away from me. My HCG level was 350 which the nurses told me was a good level but I am unaware of what the normal range is so if anyone can help me please reply.

Thank you to everyone who has already posted as your stories have really helped me during this time and I wish that I had had the courage to post sooner.

Great news Mimi. 350 is such a good result too!!! (mine had been 209 and they said it could have been twins with that even!)

As for m/c, try and stay as positive as you can. What will be, will be, but obviously avoid heavy lifting and all the usual stuff. Eat well, drink loads, take it easy and enjoy the next few months.

Take care

Hi mimi

Congratulations on your positive it is such a wonderful feeling.
Rest plenty, don,t lift anything heavy, try not to stretch up to much, drink plenty of water and if i was you no sex until your scan (not that anything has been proven but i never). Try not to worry (hard i know).
I found not working helped me alot.

hi mimi,

firstly welcome and Congratulations! and i think i can safely say that we were all petrified waiting for the first scan so your in safe company!

helen and zoe's advise is really sound. your gp/midwife will also tell you what to avoid eating so it might be worthwhile getting to see one of them. one other thing i did and still do is avoid as much as possible all smoking places and being around people smoking. probably very obvious anyway....

take it easy.

success on the first gonal cycle!

Post by ydgg »

I'm a 39 yr young female diagnosed with PCO a yr ago. 4 months of Clomid resulted in nothing but bad pms symptoms.

My RE recommended injections due to my age. Our first cycle (3x 100 units of gonal, then 4x 150 units) stimulated 7 mature follicles plus some smaller ones. The RE prescribed only half the HCG shot 2 weeks ago.

I just got a confirmation with bloodwork and HPT this morning. I'm in shock, as nothing else has worked! Next tuesday (april 20th) more bloodwork is scheduled.

Is anyone else in the same situation? I'm experiencing extreme bloating, sore breasts and a very stuffed feeling. Does this discomfort go away?

Also, when is progesterone support begun (to avoid miscarriage) ?

Thanks everyone - I will take all your advice on board. I am a born worrier though so I will probably be posting quite a bit until the scan to keep my mind off it. I'm really glad that I started posting as this is a real help to have others who are in/ have been in similar situations and who can provide support and advise.

Take Care
Mimi
