Article in todays Daily Mail

Post by SQUEW »

Hi All

Have read an article in Mail today of some interest, especially as I spent all yesterday trying not to get stressed!!

HOW ANXIETY CAN LESSEN IVF CHANCES

Worry can cut a womans chances of sucessful fertility treatment, a study shows.
The report says that those who are anxious about undergoing IVF produce 20% fewer eggs and have 19% fewer fertilised than more carefree patients.
Work and money worries can also reduce the chances of sucess, says the study published today in the journal Fertility and Sterility. Those who are very worried abbout missing work to get treatment have 30% fewer eggs fertilised.
And those concerned about finding the money to pay for the treatment run a 'very high risk' of not delivering a live infant, say researchers at the University of California San Diego.
Dr Marian Damewood of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine says more should be done to make the experience easier.'Giving them more information and creating more scheduling flexibilty is a good place to start',she said.
In the UK around 8,000 babies a year are born after IVF treatment, which costs £3000 per cycle.
Health Secretary John Ried has said that women will be guaranteed at least one cycle of treatment by next April-inclusive of drugs that many NHS patients have to pay for.

Thought it was interesting and am off to think calm thoughts now!

Hi Sue

That is an interesting article. It's so hard not to get stressed though is it? I mean my next treatment will be filled with anxiety from start to finish. I will be fretting 100%

I will have to find a way to be more calm. Mmmmmmmmmmm :? ?? I am going to have reflexology and even try acupuncture.

Thanks for posting it though. It's food for thought.

Hi

God, that article will make us all fret even more!

First time around I was so sure that it would work, I was hyper and cheerful and never got stressed at all - test was a -tive.

This time around (due to start injecting on 3 May) I am stressed to the max, so we'll see!

Dagny - I am also having acupuncture at the moment.
1 failed ICSI, 1 failed FET, next treatment starts in May with EC on 1 June 2004, hoping for a 2005 baby!
